No, but from the news and the internet, I have read opinions of OKC residents who think it's a cop-out to get a franchise who has had a very long run with a rich history in another city. It's one thing to have your own franchise, but it's another to have a team who's had 40 years in a city.

Re: Were gone. Welcome in the OK City Sonics.
Oklahoma doesnt deserve a storied franchise that has won championships(I think) like the Sonics
and Kevin Durant playing for a team in Oklahoma? I'd cry.
seriously they dont deserve a team period

Yes we won a championship (If I'm not mistaken the first championship of any sport for Seattle) and we also went to the Finals and lost to Jordan in 6 games.
Anyway more news...
Seattle lawsuit aims to keep Sonics to honor KeyArena lease deal
Quote:
Seattle city officials filed a lawsuit Monday to keep the SuperSonics from leaving town.
The lawsuit filed in King County Superior Court was a counter move to a Sonics' attempt to be released from their lease on KeyArena.
According to the complaint, "The Sonics promised to 'play all home games ... exclusively'" at the arena at the Seattle Center through Sept. 30, 2010.
"The city, with the help of some fine lawyers, is standing up to a pro sports team," city attorney Tom Carr said at a news conference. "Too often, pro sports teams have run over local governments."
|
Quote:
Carr disputed claims by Bennett that the Sonics are losing money because of the arena lease, described by NBA commissioner David Stern as the worst for any team in the league.
"The issues with the Sonics' profitability at KeyArena have less to do with KeyArena than with the Sonics' ability to defend the high pick and roll," Carr said.

I can't remember where I saw it, but if the team does move to Oklahoma City the team would be called the Oilers, and change their colors. It would seem only fair the City of Seattle keep the team name Sonics. I mean how many people get the Utah Jazz? Team moved from New Orleans to Utah and kept the name?
FWIW I would like to see Seattle stay put.

The Sonics moving anywhere is not a done deal. Allot can happen before this situation is resolved.

I also want to see the Sonics stay put and I've been outspoken about that in this same thread.
But I've never heard the "Oilers" talk.
I think I posted previously about how stupid "Utah Jazz" sounds.

I live in Norman, actually, so clearly we see different people from day to day that have different opinions.
And I promise you Quail Springs Mall is likely low-rent by comparison to what NBA players might be used to. And if you like Bricktown, that's great but I hate it personally. It's attractive and all but it doesn't change the fact its a ripoff of the San Antonio Riverwalk.
As for your aunt and grandmother, sorry for your losses, although I fail to see how that has any relevance to the Seattle Supersonics.
Let it be known I don't appreciate your assumptions, and you DO NOT speak for everyone in the Oklahoma City area (including Norman) and certainly not for the rest of Oklahoma. And the fact that I disagree and disapprove of how Bennett and his group are conducting themselves in Seattle does not make me less of an Oklahoman, and how dare you impugn my comments and my statehood.
Just had to delete the masked cursing. Otherwise, your post is fine. G-Force
