Whatever Happened To Fortson?
Last I heard of him was with the Sonics, piling on suspensions and such. Since then, he has gone incognito. Anyone know what happened to him?

Re: Whatever Happened To Fortson?
FA/semi retired. PJ hated him and never played him. He hasn't gone to another team since. He's a very unique player who can hurt you as much or more than he helps. He'll always have Seattle's appreciation for turning the team into a bunch of tough guys, even if it was just for that one year.
Fortson, Evans, and a semi motivated Jerome James- you'd get ****ed up trying to make a layup. This has to be the most intimidating frontcourt for a while. Those guys weren't afraid of using up those 18 fouls, and they hit you hard.

Blackballed from the league for being a lazy, minimally-talented jerk.

Re: Whatever Happened To Fortson?
WTF? He's not lazy at all. He was the guy who inspired everyone to hit the weght room and form the goon sqaud. It was the Bruiser, the Crusher, and Jerome James. If you don't have talent, settle for size and physicality. Seattle loved that frontcourt.
Fortson was a fan favorite but his impact on the court can change from game to game. He is a very unique player that either intimidates the opponent and turns the whole team into crazy rebounders, or kills momentum with his offensive and loose ball fouls 25 feet from the ball.
He should go to Memphis. He'd get minutes there and he'd bring toughness. Maybe Toronto, but they love being finesse so much I don't think he'd see PT.

Haha, nice. San Antonio are the last team that should complain about 'thug ball'.

Re: Whatever Happened To Fortson?
I personally never liked him. It's good to see him go, it was long overdue.

Re: Whatever Happened To Fortson?
I miss Danny Fortson. In 2004-2005 he led the NBA in free throws per 48 minutes, shooting 88% from the line.
For some reason he was very entertaining to watch while on the Sonics. He never dunked, and never shot anything outside of 5 feet. All of his points came off layups, free throws, or tear-drops from a few feet away. I can't count the number of times he'd grab his teammates missed shot, miss the layup...get his own rebound, miss the layup AGAIN...get his own rebound AGAIN and then get fouled while shooting and head to the line. Then he'd of course make both free throws. It was both astonishing and hilarious at the same time.
He maximized his strengths, namely his great size and strength in combination with his knack for rebounding. Unlike other big men with limited offensive skills, what really helped Danny is that he could make free throws. Dennis Rodman, Reggie Evans, Ben Wallace, and other similar types are/were awful from the stripe. When people watch Danny Fortson they make the same assumption. When I tell people he shot close to 90% from the line one year they are in disbelief. His rugged good looks and interesting sense of style combined with his friendly demeanor and positive attitude towards his teammates were also admirable, thereby solidifying himself as a fan favourite in Seattle.

Rick Adelman on Danny Fortson...
"Fortson, that's all he does - makes free throws and pushes."
Danny Fortson in reference to the anonymous Sonic who tattle taled to the Seattle-Times...
"I think somebody on this team might have girlish characteristics that need to be turned into a man. Because if we're going to win, we need warriors. We don't need girls. Girls are for the dance team."
Fortson also said "he wouldn't doubt it" if there were a gay player in the NBA but hopes he's not a Sonic.
"That would be a bad deal," Fortson said. "He might want to keep that one in the closet."

Re: Whatever Happened To Fortson?
He also picks up offensive fouls like there's no tomorrow. He's caused so many turnovers over his tenure here. I wouldn't call him good looking either.

Re: Whatever Happened To Fortson?
Danny Fortson is one of my all time favorite players back to his days in Cincinnati. Fortson had talent, and he was a throw back to the Xavier McDaniel/Charles Oakley players. Fortson was one of the few guy's that would kick LeBrons backside every time he tried to drive in the paint. We need more players like Fortson in the NBA. I really wish Fortson was playing right now in the NBA. We need an enforcer like that in the game. Artest just doesn't cut it anymore, he's to soft. BRING BACK FORTSON!

David Stern hated fortson just for the fact that fortson was not afraid to rough up star players. he was also a target for the refs, who, going by his rep, would call the slightest calls on him. some he deserved but others he would hardly touch the guy and fortson would get called.
