trade to Memphis
What does everyone think of this trade?
Memphis trades to Seattle:
PF Stromile Swift (11.8 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 0.7apg in 26.5 minutes)
SG Michael Dickerson (10.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.3 apg in 31.0 minutes)
Seattle trades to Memphis:
SG Brent Barry (14.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 5.3 apg in 37.5 minutes)
C Calvin Booth (6.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.1 apg in 18.6 minutes)
Memphis Roster:
PG Jason Williams, Brevin Knight, Earl Watson, Eddie Gill
SG Brent Barry, Wesley Person, Gordan Giriceck
SF Shane Battier, Drew Gooden, Wesley Person
PF Pau Gasol, Drew Gooden, Calvin Booth, Tony Massenberg
C Lorenzon Wright, Calvin Booth, Tony Massenberg, Robert Archibald, Cesar Trybanski
Seattle Roster
PG Gary Payton, Kenny Anderson
SG Desmond Mason, Michael Dickerson, Joseph Forte
SF Rashard Lewis, Desmond Mason,
PF Stromile Swift, Vladimir Radmonavich, Vitaly Potapenko
C Jerome James, Vitaly Potapenko, Predrag Drobnjak
I like this trade for both teams. Seattle has an abundance of outside scoring and no inside prescence (if they resign Rashard Lewis), and Memphis has a logjam at PF. Also, Seattle has like 4 Centers and no real PFs, so it solves two problems. I think this trade helps out both teams, but as a Memphis fan I obviously made it with Memphis in mind. If this trade went down I think Memphis would be able to make the playoffs next year, with a very deep team. I think if Desmond Mason develops into the player everyone wants him to be then Seattle could be in a very good position after this trade. I'd love to hear everybody's opinions.

I dunno...
I root for both of these teams, too. I'd like to see Jerry West dump Michael Dickerson on somebody else, actually. And I think that Brent Barry's contract is one of the best contracts in the NBA, so I don't see Seattle trading him after his HUGE season last year.
I'd like to see West dump Jason Williams AND Michael Dickerson on SOMEBODY, that's for sure!

Gasol is the starter at PF, Gooden was not drafted #4 overall to come off the bench, and Swift gives teams some incentive to take the GODAWFUL contracts of Jason Williams and Michael Dickerson off West's hands. And West doesn't like Swift, nor should he, Swift is not a very good basketball player.

Swift is definitely not in high favor with Grizzlies management. If a suitable trade is not found involving him and Williams, Knight, or Dickerson, he will have to stick it out for the season, but he is definitely not favored by Jerry West. Ideally, the Grizzlies need a two-for-one trade involving Swift and Knight for a good small forward or possibly two-guard. Does Rashard Lewis in sign-and-trade work? Anyone know the numbers?
