Fabio Cannavaro named Fifa World Player of the Year
Pretty much as we expected, couldn't see Zidane or Ronaldinho win it again.

Re: Fabio Cannavaro named Fifa World Player of the Year
Yah it would have been a bigger joke if either of them two had won it. Cannavaro doesn't deserve it though. The deserving players are Henry, Eto'o, Drogba, C.Ronaldo.

YEah right, if the one who won World Cup or the one won European Champion League does not deserve it, what make you think those players deserve it better?

The FIFA has become such a joke in the recent years. I really hate Blatter.

To be World player of the year it would probably help if for a start you were the best player on your team, and all the guys I've bolded were more than likely not. And I'm talking about the whole year, not since September.
Henry I agree with though.

none of them deserve it, although Cannavaro has a better case then his two competitors. Not really his fault the Juventus management are cheating *******s. Really it should've gone to Henry.

Eto'o was Barca best player last season not Ronaldinho. Eto'o played great in the african cup and was top scorer. Eto'o was the major reason Barca won liga and the champion league. Drogba had a wonderful WC with Ivory Coast and is tearing it up with Chelsea this season and so far is their best player. C.Ronaldo was the best young player at the WC and continued his awsome play with Man U this season and there is no doubt that he's their best player.
I hope that make sense now.

Because, you just can't use the WC to give a certain player this award. What has Cannavaro done beside having good 4-5 games at the WC? Ronaldinho won the champion league but he wasn't the best player. Heck Henry was better and also made it further with his team in the WC. he's more deserving and Eto'o is for sure more deserving than Ronaldinho.

Because every players won this award in World Cup year were World CUp winner, quickly flash back: In 2002 Ronaldo, 1998 Zidane, 1994 Romario. And this is FIFA award, World Cup is also the biggest football or any sports competition and it is a FIFA competition too.
And if you ask me what he did beside the WC? I tell you that he did alots for Juve last year, period. If in Europe they were not much success but no matter the scandal is, Juve was the true Italian Champion last year and Cannavaro is the heart and soul of the team along side Nedved, Alex and Buffon. He scored at least 3 goals to bail Juve out, gave them at least 7 pts that season and as usual was rock solid in defense. If he is a defender and didnt appear much in the media it did not mean he did nothing.
The only thing that irked me is that a living legend like Maldini or Baresi did not have a chance to win this award, 2nd place at best, he should have won at least one. arr, they failed in the final of Euro cup or World cup, damn it..

Ok, the Eto'o and Ronaldinho debate I won't argue because I'll be honest and say I didn't follow La Liga closely enough to have a truly informed opinion; I was going on general consensus.
Didier Drogba first. I have to question your definition of a wonderful World Cup. Drogba played twice, scored one goal, got suspended and Ivory Coast lost both games he played in, albeit to Argentina and Holland. I don't disagree that he's been Chelsea's best player this season. But as you said this has been the case only since the World Cup so I hope you won't disagree that January - May this year he WASN'T Chelsea's best player. Has his play in the second half of the year been so outstanding that essentially the first 9 months of the year are overlooked?
You called C. Ronaldo the best young player at the World Cup. But the FIFA World Player of the Year doesn't discriminate based on how old you are, you have to be the best out of everyone, not simply the best out of your age group. Cristiano's a great player, but to say he's no doubt Man U's best player is an exxageration, and I guess you could ask Monkeyballz, futurixsten etc as to how they feel about that.
I hope that makes sense
