Begovic was being linked with a big club move, he probably let Pulis know he wanted out and this is the answer to that.

Newcastle really "gets it". It's not the first time I've said this by any means, but there is so much discounted talent in Europe that any club who buys domestically is moronic. Invest in your youth team by all means, you need home grown players, but don't buy English talent at all. Newcastle is scouting the **** out of France, they have clearly focused all their efforts on one country so they know exactly how good the players are, not to mention that they won't have to deal with a player coming in and not speaking a common language. An established 24 year old French star and borderline National Team player in Ligue 1 costs the same, or less, than an English U-21 player. The choice is obvious.

In the same vein I think Arsenal are starting to come around to this as well; the Monreal signing was brilliant and he really impressed in his debut. Every club in Spain save the big 2 and Bilbao are in financial trouble and you can pick up brilliant players for pennies on the dollar. You look at what Arsenal did this year with ~50m and it's a perfect example of stretching your money. They picked up Giroud (best striker in Ligue 1), Cazorla (elite playmaker), Monreal (starting LB, probably top 10 in the world), and Podolski (100 caps for Germany at 27 years of age).

Just for contrast, let's look at Liverpool's summer of 2011. For the same 50m they got Downing, Henderson, Jose Enrique, and Charlie Adam. Enrique > Monreal. Henderson > Cazorla. Podolski > Downing. And Giroud can't really be compared with Adam, but I think it's clear that even if you consider the previous 3 transfers even, Giroud is a lot better than Adam and plays a position where you have to spend a lot more money to get quality.
