ETSU wins over GSU in a Shootout

91-85 at home in the SoCon opener for both schools. Zakee Wadood dropped 30 points on the Eagles.

Even though they lost, I think Georgia Southern might be a real spoiler in the conference.

Here is the game recap:
Wa"dood", where's my victory

Georgia Southern could be a team to watch out for in the SoCon.
Always a tough matchup for ETSU, for some reason. GSU had won 3 of last 4 going in to this contest. Fouls and ETSU switching from their usual man-to-man into a zone to slow GSU down were the keys to the win.

I was kind of dissapointed as well. I know ETSU is a great team (best in conference)--but we're a lot better this year than a lot of people think we are. Elton Nesbitt is holding things down. What I've been most dissapointed in so far has been--suprisingly enough--Terry Williams. The stats don't show it, because he's been getting to the line and been perfect there, but he's just not making shots this year. I know before the ETSU game he was only 29% from the floor, and 22% from behind the arc. He's better than that. What he doesn't do on the offensive side though, he more than makes up for with his leadership.

buc, you're absolutely right on about how to beat us. Run the zone. Even against Mercer we had problems whenever they switched from man to zone. We just can't seem to get around it.

Don't be suprised though if we give the big boys a run for their money. Coach Price has added a new side of things. We just learned that not only does it take offense, but you've got to actually play a little defense as well.

Welcome Savannah Eagle.

I definitely think it is important for GSU to buckle down defensively because it seems like they are always going to score.

It should be interesting how the conference season shakes out, because Western Carolina is so dangerous because of Martin and App State is much better than I think anyone anticipated.

With Davidson floundering a bit, the chance is there for someone to step up and take the 2nd place seeding to not have to play 4 games in 4 nights to a SoCon title.
