Revised SoCon Predictions

With the season being so unpredictable, I have already thrown away my preseason projections and decided to head right over to my revised predictions.

I will rank the order of the teams and then I will rank how I think the SoCon Tournament will go.

We can do this again at the end of the conference season and see how close we were and if the teams who we picked were in the right spot, right before the Conference Tournament.

North
1. East Tennessee State
2. Chattanooga
3. NC Greensboro
4. Appalachian State
5. Western Carolina
6. Elon

South
1. Charleston
2. Georgia Southern
3. Davidson
4. Wofford
5. Furman
6. The Citadel

First Round
4N Appalachian State vs. 5S Furman
3S Davidson vs. 6N Elon
4S Wofford vs. 5N Western Carolina
3N NC-Greensboro vs. 6S The Citadel

Quarterfinals
1S Charleston vs. Appalachian State/Furman winner
2N Chattanooga vs. Davidson/Elon winner
1N ETSU vs. Wofford/Western Carolina winner
2S Georgia Southern vs. UNCG/The Citadel winner

Any thoughts or comments? How do you see the season shaking out?

Cool

I'd say both predictions are pretty close. The joker in the deck will likely be Western. They could be very strong. Martin is very, very good. Depends on how much help he gets as to how far the Catamounts can go.

I can't see how you guys have Western ranked so near the bottom in the North. They will be battling ETSU for the title in the North. There is no way to tell what is going to happen in the south. I think C of C is going to win it, but after that, it is a crap shoot.

I still can't believe Elon still gets so little respect so far. After all, we did place 2nd in the Big South last year and returned just about all our starters. I guess we just have to earn respect the hard way.

It's nice to see we're not bringing up the rear like most of you all predicted. There's a long way to go still, so I might be eating my words... But, we've at least passed along the title of Cellar Dweller in the North division to App State for a while.

Elon is new to the conference and has to prove themselves before they demand respect. I know because Wofford had to go through the same process when we joined the conference back in 2000. We went undefeated this year in football and won the conference and still haven't gained the respect we deserve in that respect.

But back to basketball, you guys do have a very good group of guys. I was at the Elon/Wofford game. We jumped on you pretty good early and then our players just stopped playing and got rocked. Good win for you guys. Keep it up and you will gain the respect you deserve.

Yeah, I agree...the only way to get respect is to earn it. As conference newcomers, I'm sure we're more of a footnote this year since we're so unheralded and we're taking the place of a weak performing school (in sports, that is) in VMI. I hope our basketball team proves that we've got some good potential as a strong school for athletics. Our football season didn't help, but basketball and especially baseball should go a long way into earning some respect.

But, I hope we start to gel with all the other SoCon schools so that we can start developing some good rivalries and offer some stiff competition.

Congrats by the way on your awesome football season. I think you received more respect than you may realize. I also pull for Wofford because my wife's Dad graduated there and loved the school. I happened to stop in at the ESPN sportzone in DC after I attended the Elon vs Georgetown BB game at the MCI center, and there was a nice size crowd pulling for Wofford in the playoffs, and the game was on quite a few of their bigger TV's. They definitely got some good national attention!
