blah..the kids that just play street ball and all they practice is and1 stuff aren't good nuff for any competive league anyway. most hs coaches tell there best players that and1 stuff won't get them anywhere.

God I can't stand that garbage. What's the worst part is how egotistical these guys are. They seem to think they could actually play in the league, and are better than most the NBA players. That's what most of the show on ESPN is about, it's like a reality show with them basically saying to the camera how amazing they are. I can't stand those guys, they don't even play basketball, yet they think they're some sort of gods at it.

Kind of like being champion nerf hoop player of your neighborhood. Meaningless.

I don't know how to explain this to you...

This stuff actually helps.

1. I work with kids at a summer camp as the head couclor and they love this stuff. Many of the younger kids havn't gained a love for basketball but see me out there doing tricks and they are interested in playing. It sparks an interest in these kids who don't apreciate Stockton to Malone yet.

2. I coach a traveling high school team right now and work with the girls school varsity team often. I'm only 19, but am often asked by many people to work with their kids on their ball handeling. Just last week I was asked to work with a coaches son who's 12 and the girls JV team. People watch me freestyle dribble and are amazed. I higly recomend And 1 tapes to increase your ball handeling. Many of the stuff is ilegal, but it makes you think. It opens your mind to moves and ways to dribble that can help in real games. I can do things with a basketball many wouldn't even know what to do or how because I can think that other way. I of course run these kids through all the basic and tougher drills first though. You must have these skills but the And 1 stuff doesn't hurt if you realize it's a differnet type of ball.

i was going to say much the same thing regarding sparking an interest in basketball. hours on the court, practicing or ballin', can only help your game. kids start picking it up early, more kids play ball, the programs have more to work with.

you gotta admit though that alot of kids don't get past that phase. they don't latch on to the true basketball concepts that help win ballgames. personally, i don't think you need to invent new ways to dribble a basketball to be successful. it's usually illegal, it's usually a low risk-reward proposition, and it usually puts showmanship ahead of the objective of the game. it's cool that it sparks interest in kids and gets them into the game, but i don't like the spotlight it takes, and that many kids think it IS the game. kids spend way too much time trying to perfect a trick and not enough time perfecting a jumpshot. and playing in games with kids who play like that is a freakin nightmare.
