Use legs to propel your jumper, not your arms.
snap your wrist quickly and try to generate as much backspin as possible.
Elbow in and should be pointed towards the basket.
Arch your shot, but don't "rainbow" it or make a line drive.
keep the ball just above and in front of your head, not behind.
Have a quick release, this will minimize people blocking your shot.
keep your guide hand on the side of the ball, not in front or behind, and don't follow through with it.
repetition, repetition, repetition. Train your brain to shoot the right way, or you'll just revert back to your old style.
There really is no right or wrong way to shoot, as people do have their own unique form, but this advice has been effective for the majority of basketball players.

Also keep your eyes on the back of the rim and dont try to think about your form too much.
Just feel comfortable releasing the ball and get used to releasing it the same regardless of the situation ur in. Keep focused on the back of the rim.
Ive always prided myself on my shooting. Basically its developing a feel for the shot, not concentrating TOO much. its all about rythm and your release for me, oh and u gotta be confident. You gotta shoot the rock like its going in every time.
When u get it in, just do the same thing again. IF youre shaky shooter dont move around the court too much when practising. Shoot alot of shots from one range then move out or in and shoot a bunch of more shots.
keep moving around but shoot a decent amount of shots from the one spot to get a feel for how to shoot from certain spots. once u get a feel for your shot and how to shoot from where, you'll be knockin down shots from all angles.

ive heard when you shoot you should only have the tips of your fingers on the ball. is that correct?
oh and how are you sposed to propel your jumper with your legs?

see it depends, some people hold it with their tips others with their whole hand. The thing is dont worry too much about your form to be ultra perfect especially if ur a really bad shooter.
First of all just get used to the range, and get comfortable shooting. This could take a few years. Then worry about perfect form. See the thing is, even if ur form is a little unothadox, if u practise enough u can be really good. Just compare Peja and Ray allen. Ones text book the other is a little unorthadox, but both are great. Ones more of a jump shooter and the other is a combined set/jump shooter.
Thats what he means by use ur legs. Which i might add Glen rice is totally against. He once said a good three point shooter has minimal bend at the knees. And that will make u more accurate. But the way i shoot is, i shoot the same from no matter where i am, kinda like ray ray.
For you i would suggest using ur legs a little bit but not to the extent of a jump shooter. practise finding ur range first, find a go-to spot from the floor then expand.
when u shoot, if the ball goes long, use less legs. if it goes short, more legs or shoot it higher. just adjust untill u get find ur range. But try not to adjust ur technique too much. keep the same form even if it is a little wrong.
when u start shooting good, then adjust ur form again. then repeat. Little adjustments work alot better. Then trying to shoot akwardly without knowing how much loft to put in for the desired range.

Not necessarily the very tips of your fingers, just so that there is a "v" type pocket that is visible under the ball when you place it on your hand.

The momentum from your legs will carry upwards to your to the wrist and a strong snap of the wrist will give you more than enough power to "propel" your jumpshot.
When you use your arm to shoot a jumper, there's more room for error. Ever heard the basketball term, "it's all in the wrist?" There is a lot of truth to that statement.

make sure ur balance hand does not interfere with the release.
Dont hang in the air to shoot make it one motion.
Keep ur elbows in but that doesnt mean rite up against ur ribs just as long as your elbow is under the ball.
