There is no way a Mid-Con team will get an at-large bid. RPI is always too low, especially when you have to play the likes of Chicago State, Western Illinois and now Centenary twice (or 3 times, including 1 time in the tournament). The only reason Valpo got an NIT bid last year was because of its past history, after having lost at the buzzer to IUPUI in the tournament championship. For example, if something happens again this year like Oakland winning the regular-season title but losing in the championship game, Oakland would not get an NIT bid because it has no postseason history.

I agree. Do you see Valpo ever leaving the conference for the Horizon?

Also: I changed the thread on the Mid-Con links. So your first post was deleted in case you were wondering Valpo89.

And welcome to the site.

NCAA Bids

Until further notice, the Mid-Con is a 1 bid league. The NIT took Valpo last year because they were the regular season champ, it had nothing to do with their reputation. Taking the reg. season champion who lost in the conf. post-season tournament was something the National Assoc. of Basketball Coaches lobbied hard for 2 years ago when the NIT decided to expand.
