When will Mike Helms get his shooting touch back?

A very important question in the Mid-Con this year is will Mike Helms get his shooting touch back for the Mid-Con season? If he does during the season Oakland will win the conference regular season. If Helms regains his shooting touch during the Mid-Con tourney in KC we will finally see Greg Kampe and Oakland validated as a Mid-Con winner and we may see them keep on climbing the ladder and leave the Mid-Con in a few more years. Anyway they would get that first round game in the 13-15 seed area and probably lose to a Boston College or Ole Miss type opponent in the NCAA like SUU did. I don't think Oakland prepares well enough and the surprises are off for the Grizzlies to pull off a "pacer" type play in a close game.

I think Valpo will be too inconsistent this year and will still struggle with the type of team they really are. So far they lack the big man and a rebounding edge and that will continue. Kenny Harris will improve next year but this year he will not break through. Valpo will lose in the 2nd round or final game of the Mid-Con tourney. Next year when the underclassmen become "the guys in charge" will Valpo break out. Berdiel will just have to go with the flow. The sophomores and Dan Oppland will shape the team.

If Mike Watson somehow breaks through in KC and UMKC wins the Mid-Con tourney we will see a 16 seed get bombed by a Kentucky, Arizona or Michigan State like IUPUI did last year in the NCAA.

Soon enough, he's too good of a scorer and it's not in his personality rto get dow on himself. One of the games he's going to bust out in a big way.

The thing with Helms is, he could easily pass the ball to Rawle Marshall and Courtney Scott when he is struggling with his shot. He is too content to just keep shooting even when his shot isn't falling.

He needs to do other things w/o the ball and make himself more of a threat. He doesn't move very well w/o the ball either.

Very true.

Maybe it because, he had gotten so used to shooting the ball all the time last season and not haivng as much help as he does now. What do you think?

I wonder what's up with his foul trouble, too? Every game it seems like he's fouling out or has 4 fouls. Maybe he's playing out of control... he wasn't lik this in H.S.

More games against A & M and Mid-Con teams will help. Less games against Michigan and Mizzou. He'll be fine.

Valpo Terry, what a stupid thing to say...how do you know how Oakland prepares for games. How can a coach win 325 plus games and not know how to perpare. I'm sure that his teams have some some games on last second shots, with that many wins they had to of. Just because Valpo won a game like that that happened in the tournament do you think your the only team that would prepare for that stituation. Have you ever been to an Oakland practice...are you sure they have never won a game in the same manner. This is a statement I would expect from that nut case Mo Valpo, not the normal educated Valpo fan,.

Here's One For Ya

Three or four years ago, Oakland won at IUPUI on a last second play. Inbounding from in front of their bench with :02 left, a perfectly designed lob play wins it at the buzzer (Mike Thom either passed it or caught it, too many games between then and now). I was fortunate enough to see it.

Oakland hasn't been prepared well enough to win any games in the Mid-Con tourney. Also surprise is no longer a factor which Valpo had against Ole Miss. Nobody will forget that play when it comes down to the last play in any early round NCAA tourney game.

Really?

Because in the only 2 times they've played in it, they lost in the first round? And now, with a senior/junior dominated team, their first with Division I talent, they won't be prepared for something that's almost 3 months away? What insight! Can you tell me who'll win the Super Bowl? I'd rather not work this coming year.
