Las Cruces, NM (Sports Network) - New Mexico State men's basketball coach Lou Henson has been diagnosed with cancer, but will continue in his role.
Brian Faison, the Aggies' athletics director, announced Tuesday that Henson has been recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer affecting the lymph system of the body.
The 71-year-old Henson returned to coach at New Mexico State in 1997. He retired the year before after 21 seasons at Illinois. Henson, who also had an earlier coaching stint with the Aggies, is 38 victories short of 800 for his career.
