LAS CRUCES -- New Mexico State got its first commitment for the 2004-05 season as post player Delbert Simpson said he will become an Aggie men's basketball player.

Simpson is a 6-foot-9, 215-pounder out of John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas. He is rated the 33rd best high school prospect in the nation, according to Texasroundball.com.

Simpson cannot sign officially with the Aggies until November and NMSU coaches cannot comment on him until they receive his national letter of intent. He is the first player to give NMSU a commitment for the 2004-05 season.

"I'm happy to be going to NMSU," Simpson said on Thursday afternoon from his home. "I took my visit in late August and I really liked it in Las Cruces. New Mexico State has been high on my list for a long time.
