The shots were 17 - 4 for Portugal, so it was hardly domination. Greece just played good defensively, and got a nice goal when they needed it.

When Greece was on defense they always played with 10 men behind the ball.. They clogged the middle of the pitch and they were all in the penalty area when there was a cross coming in.. Even though it wasn't exciting football, it worked and their opponents didn't adapt to this defensive minded playing style. They stuck to their coach's tactics and they won, too bad he's going to be leaving.. Good news for Turkey We play Greece for World Cup Qualifying in September..

Re: Ot: Greece Wins Euro2004
it's things like this that i find are conveniently overlooked/swept under the rug far too often by fans and critics alike. greece just won the euro cup. greece just won the euro cup.
greece just won the euro cup.
the people who don't believe that anything can happen in professional sports are fooling themselves- given the right set of favorable intangibles, any team, in any league, can outperform any foe, on any given night.
anybody can win the championship.
you'll find people claiming that only three or four teams are qualified enough to sip from the coveted trophy of their respective sport, but those are often the same people who are proven wrong at tournaments like the '04 euro. likewise, any team in the nba, nfl, cfl, nhl, you name it, has the potential to win a championship.
and if the point of it all is to win championships (and by all accounts, it is), you should have 100% of the players/fans/coaches/teams/people believing in their heroes. there will be those who wi | |
