I think so, it is obvious that they are too agressive and are causing too many attacks, my drama teacher's mom was attacked when she was walking her dog, luckly she didnt get hurt, but it was still probably scary as hell.

I’m sorry but for all you people who think pit bulls should be banned HAVE NO BRAINS at all. When are people going to realize that IT'S NOT THE PET BUT THE OWNER!! I am not a dog owner… sure pit bulls are aggressive but so are those little chowowa’s who bark 24/7 and are always either biting or humping your leg how come there’s no ban on them? Come on people you can't put a ban on a breed instead we should but a ban on some owners. Wake up; you can't single out a breed of dog just because of some bad apples. If we did that to every living thing on earth it would be a pretty boring place. If you train your dog and keep him on a leash there should be no problems at all... what next a ban on hamsters? It's not a matter of pitbulls being more aggressive than other dogs, it's a matter of the fact that they are bred to be rather lethal, with their locking jaws, tendency to go for the jugular, and whatnot. So if a pitbull is provoked to attack, look out.

That said I don't think they should be banned, just regulated.

I've said this on the other thread, and I'll just copy and paste it here.

1) It's been proven time and again that no dog breed has a lock jaw mechanism. Matter of fact, I can't think of a terrestrian mammal with a lock jaw.

2) How can you prove a dog is a Pit Bull and not the AKCs Amstaff? You really can't.

Blame the owners, not the dogs.
If people can own tigers and lions, why cant they own pit bull dogs?

On a side note: do you guys think the recent wave of Pit Bull attacks is just coincedence, hightened reporting, or a change in the pitbull poplutation. So many attacks recently has led me to wonder if there is/are a (few) unscrupulous breeder(s) out there that are putting out hyperaggresive dogs?

I know as a dog owner that any dog can be aggressive, but certain lines are more prone to it. One breeder putting out aggressive dogs, of which some are then further "trained" to be aggresive could be the problem here. Pit Bulls shoud not be banned, out of decency to all the wonderful ones out there that people love, it just wouldn't be fair

The only people who seem to want these dogs are irresposible owners. I hear a story every other week.

I have 2 solutions. If you don't adopt one, you must adopt the other.

1) Ban pitbulls except for government police forces if they can be used there.

2) If a pitbull, or any other dog for that matter, harms anything, a cat, another dog or a human, the owner of the offending dog shall be subject to a $50,000 fine and a 5-year jail term for negligence causing harm. 1 strike and you're out.

No way #2 happens so I'll just go with #1, it's easier. You are all right, it's the owners. But how do you police the owners?

I don't think people should be allowed any pets that are large/strong enough to seriously injure full grown people.

babies and little kids are fair game though. But any animal strong enough to kick my %$# should be banned. Seriously.

maybe a 10,000 fine would work. No jail time unless it can be proven your inciting dog violence.

best idea is mine though. No animals allowed that are big enough to kill me

just gradually phase them out. Stop breeding large dogs, keep the existing but when they die, thats it. No more big animals.

Um, it's pretty easy to prove. The Animal often has to be shot or pulled off the victim's mangled carcass.

Just a couple of weeks back 2 pitbulls attacked their 200 Ib male dog-sitter. Tough call. Whodunnit?

And large dogs are not the problem. I've never heard of a vicious Great Dane.
