What ever Happened to Ivan Chiriaev?

What ever Happened to Ivan Chiriaev? This guy played High School in Oakville Ontario and was getting all kinds of buzz about being a lottery pick in the 2004 draft saying the NBA needs Ivan Chiriaev. Steve Kerr wrote an article about him. nbadraft.net had him going in the top 5 in their mock drafts for the 2004 draft and finally he withdrew his name.

I know a lot of the top American Colleges wanted this kid to play for them. I can't find any info on what happened to him. Anyone know?

Here are some articles about him from two years ago.

Re: What ever Happened to Ivan Chiriaev?

Isn't he playing in Europe???

Guy was a fraud. His agent hyped him up to a 7'0 PG and exaggerated his stats and amateur draft sites fell for it. That is why I don't trust draft sites. I only trust my own eyes. Draft sites are good secondary resources but nothing beats primary resources.

Chiriaev wasn't even close to the prospect Dehnam Brown was when Brown left for the NCAA and he was finally exposed during the national telecast.

Re: What ever Happened to Ivan Chiriaev?

He looked like **** at the first Adidas equivalent of the McDonald's All-American Game, pretty much blowing it in front of all the scouts who had come for him. He had already hired an agent so he couldn't go to the NCAA so he went overseas. I'm pretty sure he got booed at the end of the game.

Ivan was victimized by the grinding gears of the hype machine.

Re: What ever Happened to Ivan Chiriaev?

Ivan plays or better say sits on bench in Dynamo Moscow, Russia. Its a strong team with good roster, so nothing surprising that Ivan hasnt scored a point yet this season (except of 2 games in Russian Cup, playing vs team from 3rd or 4th division).

Re: What ever Happened to Ivan Chiriaev?

from nbadraft.net article

Quote:
Notes: Another 7-foot European "Uber Freak". Will play a second year of basketball in Ontario, Canada. Lacks experience but those that have had the chance to see him practice come away raving about his potential. He has been compared to Dirk but with a point guard handle. This season he will play in the backcourt including the point. In the past several months he has put on 25lbs of muscle. Some have made the comparison to Mike Dunleavy Jr. due to his ball handling and passing ability, but Ivan is quicker and has more size and athleticism. He lacks Dunleavy's experience at the same age however.

Notes: Sources indicate he will enter the 2004 NBA draft and has a good chance to go in lottery.
this scout was very wrong
