Well I didnt know where else to turn so here it goes.

The other night I was driving home. I got pulled over by a cop and he gave me two tickets. One for driving without proper headlights, because my front right light was out.

Second was for failing to surrender a car permit. It is my dad's van so he carries the registration on him all the time hence why I did not have it. I tried to explain that to him but he didnt care.

The light I fixed the next day and even kept a recepit of the bulbs I bought at Canadian Tire. Now my problem is I dont know what to plea for the tickets. Do I plea not guilty for both and take it to court? Do I plea not guilty just for the registration ticket and guilty with an explanation for the lights? I have no idea what to do hopefully someone can help me.

I'm pretty sure you have to have the car's registration in the vechile at all times, so he may just have you there. Maybe get your Dad to pay the ticket because it's his fault.

can't you take the registration to a police station within 48/24 hours or something?

I have no idea. It too late for that though. I figured I would plead guilty with and explanation for both since I do have registration, just that my dad keeps it on him all the time. I dont know if that will work though.

you got two options....I just got a failure to stop at a stop sign ticket so I'm going through a similar situation

1. If you don't care about the associated points attached to the ticket, then you can go anyday and ask to speak to a Justice of the peace. they will reduce the fine but won't reduce or eliminate the charge, so all the points you lost, still stand

2. If you do care about the points you lost and want to reduce the charge to a lessor one, you do the "guilty with an explanation" choice and ask for a trial and meeting with the prosecutor. This is your best chance at reducing or eliminating a charge, but the trial will most likely be months away. For example, my trial for my stop sign ticket is in Feb.

Are those tickets even worth any demerrit point?

If not, there is no real big deal.....it is your Dad's car and he should pay up for the fine amount, he had the permit with him....nothing you can do there. If he had the lights working you never would have been pulled over.

Just an update on what happened. Ending up choosing option 4; basically to see the prosecutor first. I went in and showed him the proof of registration and a recepit of bulbs I had bought the next day and he dropped all the charges! Two tickets down, one more to go.
