OT: Crazy Blackout Story, Help Me Out
So my brother was driving last night around 9:30. He was headed to an intersection and he slowed down and stopped. The stop lights were out, so everyone was being polite and treating it like a four-way stop. So my brother's turn to go comes up and he creeps forward. He gets about half-way through the intersection and sees headlights...
He stepped on the gas and tried to jump out of the way, but the driver ripped through the intersection doing about 90 (when everyone else was doing like 15), and hit my brother in the rear passenger side, spinning my brother around about four times (according to the many witnesses).
Get this: the car that hit my brother was a Neon, and he hit my brother so hard, he left his bumper fused onto the backside of my brother's car!
So my brother comes about two feet from swiping a massive pole at the side of the road. The car that hits him stops.
AND THEN THE NEON FU*KING SPEEDS OFF!
My little brother is 16, so he was pretty shook up. He got out of the car and it looks like it is totalled. A bunch of people that were walking nearby tried to stop the Neon from leaving but couldn't.
The witnesses made sure my brother was ok, which he is (except for a possible mild concussion and a scraped leg/thigh). Then they all noticed the bumper still attached to my brother's car.
THE LICENCE PLATE WAS STILL ON THE BUMPER! HA!
The police showed up and my brother had phoned my parents, so they drove over, too. The police told my brother that any one of three things could have happened:
1. The driver was drunk, and would rather be charged with leaving the scene of an accident than impared/wreckless driving.
2. The driver had no insurance, or the car was stolen.
3. The driver panicked and took off, possibly because one of the above factors, or possibly out of fright.
So the ***** that was driving the Neon didn't even check on my brother to see if he was alright. The police told us that they will find the driver with the Licence Plate and he will be charged with leaving the scene of an accident, etc..
It was a really nice Acura Integra too, with new, lightweight rims and some other good stuff. Oh, the pain!
Has anything like this happened to anyone else? Can we take legal action? Our no-fault insurance will cover the damages to the car, but can we take it further than that?

My Advice is to sue the pants off the guy, because with so many eyewitnesses you should be able to get most of the car fixed through insurance. But you should be able to re-coup most of your losses that you put in initially to fixing the car and your brothers medical bills at all, if he has any.
Hope he's ok.

why fix, if it hit his car so hard that the other car's bumper was imprinted onto the rear, I think he should try to write it off, it's never the same once the car gets into a crash, not to mention re-sale value just dips and dips and dips.
