Ricky Ray is the man! I live here in Edmonton and watched him all season long. Excellent passer, sees his recievers well, mixes it up with the pass and the run. Really impressive at reading the blitz and avoiding sacks. I've seen him with 300 pound guys hanging off of him and he somehow avoids getting sacked.

Of course, I would prefer that you guys don't pick him up so he can be back in Edmonton next year, but I think he would have a very nice career in the NFL, and he is still very young!

Ricky Ray has, however, commented that if he isn't gonna be the starter, he won't make the jump to the NFL. I don't know what your QB situation is, I don't really follow the NFL too much, but Ricky is gonna be a starter next year, and if it isn't in the NFL, he will stay in the CFL.

Ray is the real deal, i live here in Edmonton as well..ive seen him take the Eskimos to two straight Grey Cups (CFL Super Bowls) and lead them to victory this year. Hes still only 22 and has great field vision. He had a really good receiving core this year, but none the less has a really good arm. I hope he gets to go somehwere where he will start soon

these are the numbers he put up this year...
67% completion rate, 4640 yards in the air, 35TD's, 13 INT's and a 108 QB rating. and he also ran for 352 yards, which proves that he can move well when hes pressured out of the pocket. And all of these stats come along with the fact that the Eskimos had the #2 RB in the league.

It'd be great to see Ricky Ray win a job down south....Anybody from the CFL doing well would be great for the league's already strong reputation....

I don't know how well Ray will do in the NFL. You have to remember that the CFL field is 30 yards bigger than an NFL field (5 more yards added to width of each sideline and 10 yards added to length of each endzone). Also, there is a dropoff in talent when it comes to the CFL and NFL. A running back like John Avery was a star in the CFL and couldn't crack the line-up for the Vikes. Doug Flutie was a megastar in the CFL but was never considered a top tier QB in the NFL. Linebacker Paul LaCoste of the Indy Colts excelled for the BC Lions but is a third stringer in the NFL. Juran Bolden was a highly touted CB in the CFL, but has only been decent for the Falcons. There are more eamples.

Very few recent CFLers have had marginal success in the NFL. The most notable being Mike Vanderjagt, the kicker of the Colts (Formerly of the CFL Argos), who is the most accurate kicker in NFL history. Doug Flutie has been a second tier QB during his stint in Buffalo. And Marc Boerigter, who played for the Calgary Stampeders now with the Chiefs, had a great 2002 season catching 8 TD's but dropped off this season.

I'm not saying Ray won't be good, and I hope he succeeds, but don't totally rely on being your franchise quarterback.

Yes, there is a drop off in talent, but what you say is a little misleading... Doug Flutie made the Pro Bowl one season in the NFL, and he came into the NFL as a 36 year old. Not exactly in his prime, now is he? Ray on the other hand, was doing the things Flutie did in the CFL and he was only 22. Now, Flutie was better, don't get me wrong, but Flutie wasn't 22 when he was in the CFL.

Others from the CFL have had some success in the NFL. You failed to mention Jeff Garcia who played for the Calgary Stampeders. He has been very succesful in my opinion.

Having lived in the same football crazed city as Ray for the last year, I have seen what he can do, and I believe he will succeed in the NFL. He may not be a Peyton Manning, but who is?
