GM Babcock wants to keep Peterson - waits for MLSE to commit
"Babcock wants to keep restricted free agent Morris Peterson at a cost of $15 million (all figures U.S.) over the next three years, but the GM needs to get approval from the bean counters and directors at MLSE. "Our intention is to keep MoPete," Babcock said after the restricted free agent got a three-year, $15 million offer sheet from the New Orleans Hornets." - Toronto Star
I don't know about this - didn't Morris say that Toronto has been "unloyal" and that he's very excited about playing in New Orleans? I wouldn't be surprised if MLSE rejected Babcock's plead to keep Morris Peterson.

With the comments Morris has said regarding unloyality I doubt Babs gets the approval.

you gotta understand how mo pete feels
he contributed big time in his past few years with the team n he said himself at a time that he would love to finish his career here...
mo pete is one of those guys that if he and his girlfriend broke up, he would tell her "if anyone asks, I broke up with YOU"...and thats basically what hes doing here....and management knows it so dont worry.

As a very close follower of it, I think that the whole Raptors franchise is a complete mess. All this talk of unloyalty and unhappiness. They should get rid of anybody who is unhappy or thinks they've been mistreated, and start it all over. They aren't going to get any better if every one is sour and complaining all the time. Get rid of Peterson, get rid Carter, get rid of anyone who is going to be a bother in the to the team.

But couldn't he have waited until the deal with the Hornets became official? The Raps have 15 days to match, and to go along with his comments it now looks as if they won't match.

Charlotte will call our bluff. They will not do a sign and trade.

So what? It doesn't need to be a bluff.
Sign Mo Pete. It is not a BAD move. That is the going rate for a player of his caliber.
We need a 3rd wing along with Vince and Jalen.
Let Charlotte offer something in a sign and trade. Even if you only get a 2nd round pick in 2008, that is better than nothing.
Maybe the don' t particularly want Jason Kapono if they get MoPete, and will send him to us. Usable 3pt specialist, minimal salary.

And once an offer sheet is signed there can be no sign and trade with the Hornets. If Toronto matches the offer then MoPete cannot be traded to anyone for a year without his consent, and he cannot be traded to the Hornets at all during that year.
