The Cavaliers might be looking for a short-term fix. If they are exploring free agency for a power forward, they are finding that there's not a lot out there...
Donyell Marshall, Toronto, 6-9, 230: This guy does nothing but put up numbers. Has he ever played on a good team? No. But he'll go to the boards and get the ball. He can also shoot the 3-pointer. He has one year left on his deal worth $5 million. They need a center and might be agreeable to trading Marshall for Tony Battie.
|
Two concerns:
One, Cleveland gives us a little incentive. Marshall for Battie seems a little too much in their favour. Something like their 05 2nd-round pick or a lottery protected future first-round pick.
Two, Battie has injury concerns, Marshall doesn't.
That being said, a starting centre is more valuable than a rotation forward. Especially if Ujo isn't ready to start (ie. is a fouling machine).
Having Battie and losing Marshall would free-up time for Bonner, Moiso, and Sow. Three players with a lot to prove this year.

I guess that every deal involving Raps and Cavs may include Moiso... Paul Silas likes him a lot... hey, Raps could try to get Dajuan Wagner...
Marshall
Moiso
Battie
Wagner

Battie is good, but I would want more in return for Marshall. A future protected 1st sounds good tho.

Good deal if Battie didn't have his knee problems. Because of those, I don't want him...too much risk.

The Cavs have no first rounder to give.

Getting our own future 1st back would be nice.
I think Id want Diop in any deal for Marshall. Diop is a legit 7 footer with mobility and the potential to be a good defensive presence.

I think there are at least 3 very good reasons to trade donny.
1. his value will never be higher - he just came off his healthiest, most productive season
2. His next contract will be a whopper - I like donny but I don't like the idea of outbidding every team in the leage for a guy with alot of injury problems
3. The combination of Bosh/Bonner/Sow at the PF spot means we really should move cap space over to the "C" spot.
BTW did you know that Donny's numbers are significantly better than Reef (last season)?
who knew...

do it for Battie, he would be better short term plug in than Hunter, Ostertag.
in that deal add Moiso and ask fior Wagner i like that
Our PF rotation than
Bosh-Bonner-Sow

Instead of Battie, Diop and Wagner.
I dont think that Cle would do it, but their gm is pretty dumb. And they will be desperate for PF replacement for Boozer, so the fans don't go nuts.
