-- 5-Time NBA All-Star; leading vote-getter 4-years running.
-- Among the NBA leaders annually in scoring, assists, rebounding, field goal attempts, minutes per game, three point shooting percentage, and free throw percentage.

I stand by Vince. I would be tired of this team if I was him also. How have they improved? They havnt picked up any big time players since hes been there, and by the time Bosh is ready to make a championship run, Vince will be on the downside of his career.

Maybe if Vince had played harder and helped us win more games, we would've made the playoffs last year. Or maybe if he'd trained harder in the past, he wouldn't have had injuries and he could've helped our team win in the playoffs versus Detroit. Or maybe if he hadn't attended his grad ceremony on the day of game 7, he wouldn't have missed that shot and we would've advanced into the third round.

give me a break speedy. you know very well that VC has had a **** team to go with his **** luck these past two seasons. The team itself has rebounded in part to his absence (ie Bosh) but even the most devout Raptor fan (you or I) will tell you that the Raptors aren't ready to be an elite team with Vince (even with him playing at elite SG level), despite recent improvements (IMO).

If by great player you mean someone who is almost an all-star but not quite then using your formula the Raps should have been a contender last year. Vince was an all-star, Donyell was the closest thing to it without actually being there and Jalen and Bosh are a decent supporting cast

Supporting cast includes bench depth.

Sorry but Vince is also partially to blame for the calibre of players Raptors management put out there with him.Vince wanted Palacio to be on the team,Vince wanted Hakeem Olajuwon signed & supporting cast brought back. They let Keon Clark go because he & Carter didn't get along. Grunwald & Raps management kissed his rear end & what they got for it in return is a player who only showed up when he was interested in showing up & wasn't willing to be a leader.

They tried to build a winning team with limited resources to cash in on Carter and GG failed miserably. Injuries were a major part of this but, as I've already mentioned, they may be our saving grace in the long term.

I think Carter realizes that he now has some talent to work with but he wants to make a new splash. Despite having a good season last season he is absolutely hated upon by the casual Canadian NBA fan while the American contingent wrote him off after his first quad strain.

Heading into his underrated prime, Vince has a chance to win (more games) and cash in. He's concerned for his legacy (nowadays written off) and so am I. If he bounced back with the Raptors it would be great, the Raptors fans would be happy, but overall his popularity would probably continue to decline. It's the nature of the beast. If he miraculously ended up on a winning NYC team, the world would be clamouring at his feet once again. You might write that off as meaningless but for a man striving to be a sports legend, it means pretty much everything. Vince wants to be remembered and needs a change to scenery to best facilitate that.

Vince is barely a top 15player in the league.

the idea of a player who can't crack the top 10 worrying about his legacy is laughable.

but Vince is weird. Maybe he really is.

barely huh? Well lets try and walk in Vince's shoes, this is a player that 3 years ago was a media darling. Everyone knew who Vince Carter fan, fastforward to 2004, Toronto doesnt even have one game on national TV. As much as Vince claims he doesnt like the attention, he loves being on highlights, heck he always plays his best on the national stage. Am not saying this is the only reason why he wants out but I'll be surprised if isnt one of the factors.

yeah, absolutely. Getting back in the spotlight is by far the biggest reason.

but his legacy will be as a good, 20plus scorer who got a lot of allstar votes (for reasons outside talent-listed as a sf against no-names each year)

That depends on whether he ends up contributing a lot for a winning team from this point out. It's not too late for him to continue building a legacy (ie try to make the hall) but it makes sense to make a move now.
