Bosh at SF

How are we not talking about this? For Mitchell to have CB learning this new position so soon is a pretty big deal. I'm sure that Chris has a long way to come but this is a great test for both his mind and body. If Bosh can effectively guard opposing small forwards, he's going to be a huge matchup problem for the teams around the league.

We've talked about the big lineup before but were pretty doubtful that Mitchell would put it into effect this season. For Bosh to be deemed ready for this step speaks volumes about his skills and potential. With Marshall and Bosh as our forwards, our rebounding is going to be sick.

i dont think it is such a good idea on defense, I would much rather play him at PF cause i dont think he is fast enough to guard other SFs. On offense though it is not such a bad idea, he can go inside and is not that bad of an outside shooter.

I'm not huge on the idea.

the strength of this team, is on the wing. Who's minutes is bosh going to be taking when playing the three? But more importantly who is going to be filling his minutes at the 4/5?

I don't like the idea of Bosh spending too much time at the 5, however he may still be our best option there. I really hope that he doesn't get more than 8-10 min a game though.

I know Mitchell said He isn't a 5, but he also said 'I don't know' when asked directly if bosh would see minutes at centre.

In the long run, if he can play the three well then by all means. But I'm just not sure, at this time, that it plays to the strength of this roster.

Can you picture CB4 guarding Desmond Mason? Or Richard Jefferson? Bonzi Wells, Shawn Marion, Paul Pierce, Andres Nocini, Luke Jackson, Tayshaun Prince, Ron Artest, Gerald Wallace, Grant Hill, Jarvis Hayes, etc., etc..

I don't understand how Bosh could be effective versus most starting small forwards in the league.

There are some--the Tim Thomas', Keith Van Horn's, Al Harrington's, Rashard Lewis's--that Bosh could have a chance at defending. But what's the sense?

I think that the purpose of Chris playing some 3 in the summer league and in training camp/exhibition play is to try and work on his lateral quickness and shooting. I don't think they are trying to hone his skills so he can play the 3, I think they are just trying to develop some skills so he will be better at the 4. And maybe give him a little confidence boost in the process.

I remember watching tape of the Summer league team and Bosh was defending Andre Igoulada. He didn't seem to have any problems guarding him.

I don't think Bosh would have as much trouble guarding 3's as some of you think. Whenever Bosh had to cover a guard or wing player on a switch last year, Bosh always did a good job keeping his feet moving and keeping up with them

I think the results of this experiment could be interesting, even if Bosh does indeed end up being more effective at the 4 down the road.

I think a lot of you are underrating Bosh's quickness, length, and overall defensive prowess. We talk about Marshall getting minutes at the 3 but I think Bosh could be the MUCH better perimeter defender of the two.

And that's pretty much what it comes down to- as the season progresses, do you want to play Marshall and Bosh together? It looks like Mitchell does. That doesn't mean Bosh won't be guarded by other power players and will stay on the perimeter, it simply means that they would match up accordingly, rebound like hell, score from inside and outside, and run the court.

It is Bosh's speed that will allow us to use our big lineup without losing our ability to fast break while bolstering our transition defense. We need to be a force moving up and down the court- rebounding, finishing, and locking down in transition- to be at all successful this season.

Now, it's possible that Bosh just isn't ready for SF at this point in his career, or that it isn't ideal for this present squad. However, it's also possible that playing the big line could become a key to success and that Bosh could develop into one of the most versatile forwards in the game...this season. Ya never know.

I love the idea of it though. Mitchell was caoching, with the Bucks last season, a very effective transition team using a couple big forwards in KVH and Toni Kukoc. Sam was a pretty big forward himself and probably sees an amazing amount of potential in young Chris.

Remember that Mitchell is going to be playing a 9-10 man rotation and needs to make full use of players. If Bosh is only playing 30 mpg, that leaves a measly 18 for Yell at PF. I suppose that Bosh will be going to center at times but that's beside the point.

Bosh is a true freak, he will be able to play SF, PF, and center. At times next season we could see him at all three.

(the true big line)

Jalen
Vince
Bosh
Marshall
Araujo/Woods/Moiso

(our little line)

Rafer
Mo Pete
Vince
Marshall
Bosh

(starting line)

Rafer
Vince
Jalen
Bosh
C

(and complete backup line)

RMJ
Mo
Lammond
Marshall
Araujo

Bosh really makes this squad a versatile one. Now it's up to Coach Mitchell as to how he chooses to use it.

playing the SF can only provide positives. he gets to work more on his mid-range game and passing lanes to be more versatile on the court.

i'm pretty excited to see it myself, but i hope in the future he gets to work more on his low post game.

Williams
Peterson
Clark/JYD

Well I think if Mitchell know what he is doing he will play him a bit at SF during preseason, see how he handles it and maybe next year (if he is still around ) he can think about it again
