Mo Pete, All Defensive Team?
Link

I want to be on the all-defensive team," Peterson said. "I feel like, over the years, my defence has gotten better and better and this is going to be the year where I can show the league what a good defensive player I am and how far I've come.
|
i don't know about him being on there now espeically with Artest and Pietrus being ahead of the race for the SG/SF spot, but i think he can get some recognition around the league about being a great, lock down defender this season.

It's great that MoP is setting that kind of goal for himself.
Making first team all-defensive would be an incredible accomplishment but I don't think its too realistic. Mo is overrated defensively by Raptors fans, mainly because he is compared to our other wing players, Rose and Carter, who rarely play tough D.
With guys like Christie, Bowen, Artest, Prince, Kobe, Hassel, etc it will be very difficult for MoP to achieve his goal.
But defense is mainly about effort and anticipation so you never know. If he really wants it he could make it happen.

we've never had this many predictions by players before. Mitchell has these guys CONFIDENT!!!
I think your right about him getting compared to other raps so he seems better.
He's ok though. Was really good last year. He'll be used on offence more this year though. Instead of resting and waiting for a three, and not moving. At all.

Our players definitely are more outspoken, almost every one has come out with a chip on their shoulder and some point to prove. Am really hoping this season we prove a lot of naysayers wrong. I dont think its impossible Mopete can make the alldefensive teams, he just has to be consistent and put in more effort

You said it man! They do all seem to be rather fired up. I think Mo isn't that far behind some of the guys listed above, and once he ups his profile as a defender he might get some more leaway from the refs in terms of grabbing and crowding players that only the best defenders get. The first step in making the all defensive team is reminding everyone that you think you belong on it.
He won't make it this year, but 2 good seasons and he could next year.

there's no doubt that Mo's defense has been improving as the years pile on and on
i know he's not a 'Ron Artest' type of defender, but i hope in a year or two he can be mentioned under the same breath as him

Funny thing is that he probably stands a better chance at 6th man then all defensive team.
I don't think either are very realistic...but why not shoot for the stars?

the year-end awards parade is all about perception. i'm not sure there's anyone who logically believes that morris peterson has no chance in the world to make the all-defensive team. i see some fans want him to be "like artest", but how was artest being perceived ~ 3 years ago? it's getting hard to believe that he's even the same player considering all the people who are now singing his praises.
again, it's all perception. for example, in 1999, if you would've told this city's fans, journalists and players that chauncey billups would eventually win nba finals MVP, people would've laughed- they would have more than laughed. they would have rioted! (well, not really...)
but all of a sudden, billups found himself in the right situation, playing for the right city, right team and right coach at the right time, and that's exactly what he did.
these awards are obviously oversimplified, and people naturally try to make sense of the hundreds of players in this league by putting them in small categories (the same way we all try to make sense of the world, really)- so obviously there are going to be players who won't fit the profile of a DPOY, MVP, 6th MOY or all-defensive team contributor. but that doesn't mean it won't happen.
most of us are incredibly short-sighted when it comes to predicting the future. we find it difficult to acknowledge that there are more than just a few possible outcomes, and i'm not at all surprised that some people can't see the potential of morris peterson- or chris bosh... or rafer alston... or whoever- to make the all-defensive team at some point in his career.
but that doesn't mean that it won't happen.
perception changes fast.
peace

To be honest most of this awards are based on who's popular. How many times are the raps in the media besides for the usual negative. If the raps can put together a winning season, I wont be suprised if Mopete is considered

As of now, Mo Pete is more of a 6th man candidate than one for All-Defensive First Team. To get to the First team, Peterson would have to edge out Hassell, Christie and Pietrus if he wants to make it as a SG, and Artest, Bowen and Prince at SF. He is simply not as good a defender as those guys, yet.

If Mo Pete has improved and gotten even quicker, he should certainly be a condidate for one of the defensive teams. I think he's just as capable as guys like Hassell. The question is whether he has an impact with a winning ball club- how many minutes is he going to get?
