Raptors, "Hurricane Carter" Promote Reading During Black History Month Celebrations
Quote:
Promoting reading and on-line literacy through the NBA Read to Achieve program is an important community initiative for the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors will combine the values of reading with its celebration of Black History Month Wednesday during the team’s visit with Grades six, seven and eight students from Humber Summit Middle School at St. Lawrence Hall.
Players including Morris Peterson, Alvin Williams, Matt Bonner, Loren Woods and Eric Williams will be joined by four esteemed Canadians — former boxing champion Dr. Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, musician Molly Johnson, Toronto artist Robert Small and former Ontario Lieutenant-Governor The Honourable Lincoln Alexander — whose contributions and achievements have made a significant difference to African- Canadian culture and history.
