Bonner contract
could we offer him our full LLE
if so what type of deal would he be offered?
or is LLE only used on rookie contracts?

Re: Bonner contract
This is what I say with the 5 million that is coming off the books from Marshall we sign Bonner to a 3 yr $5 Million deal with a 1 yr option.

Good luck getting Bonner to agree to that contract. That's less than two million a year (aka slightly better than what he's making now as a rookie).
He'll probably command a 3 year/$10 million deal, and get a 3 year/$8 million deal.
Oh and if we offer him our full MLE (~$5 mil) then that's a total failiure of an offseason.

Re: Bonner contract
It will be tough hanging on to him. Every team in the League has room for a player like Bonner on their bench. Hopefully he's enjoying Toronto and wants to stay.

Re: Bonner contract
Going into the offseason it'll be one of Babcock's main priorities to keep Bonner in Toronto. He's one of our most important players off the bench.
We should be able to keep him here, we have his bird rights no?

Re: Bonner contract
the one thing i've learned through the trade deadline is that we tend to overrated our own players and are completely far off of what their actual value is...
i say bonner is not going to get anything over 2.5 mil on a 3 year deal, and i'm willing to bet no team is willing to pay him over that.

Why would you sign Bonner to a deal worth $8 million the guys making like 300k right now with still lots to prove as a player we can definately get Bonner for less considering his persona. He's not the type of player to go out and ask for a 10 million dollar contract. And with our MLE of $ 5million which other free agent could we get with Bonners talent and fan appeal...none.

Re: Bonner contract
i wouldn't be so worried. babcock isn't exactly the guy under the gun here, unlike when GG had make his crucial deals. of couse we want babcock to (have mde) a deal...
IT made some serious deals that could scoop us our first draft pick but at least Ainge decided to keep pace with Philly...the atlantic is crazy: i will pay money to prevent sixer wins...

Re: Bonner contract
We have the ability to pay Bonner and Sow- i think Babcock has the prowess to lock them up for cheap. Otherwise, they can walk...

Bonner isn't his own agent, he won't be asking for $10 million. But you think his agent will? Of course. That's their job, to ask for outlandish deals. If we offer Bonner $5 million over 3 years, another team could easily offer $8-10 million and we'd lose him like that. If he can replace Marshall, then even $8 million over 3 years will be a bargain. Just because he's making close to the minimum right now, doesn't mean he'll accept a BS offer.

$5million over 3yrs is not a BS offer for an 1st year unproven player IMO.
Sure Bonner has played well this season but who's to say he plays this well next year and the year after. If SanAntonio can sign Manual Ginobil for 22 millon over 5yrs and Tony Parker 5.2 million over 6 yrs I think we could work out a cheap deal for Bonner. Plus, if your going to give 10+ million contract to Bonner.. i'ed say see ya later and let him walk and then next year when we have the cap spend it on a proven free agent. I am very confident that Babcock can sign Bonner for a cheap respectable contract.

First of all, Parker was signed for $62 million, what are you talking about.
Anyway I never said we should or we are going to give him a $10 million contract. I said that's what he'll ask for. You think Tony Parker asked for $62 million? No his agent wanted upwards of $70 million. Matt Bonner is at the very least getting a $6 million over 3 years, but probably somewhere between $7-8 million, when you factor in contract demands and more importantly market value. A lot of teams could use him, and teams WILL throw money at him. It's not called overpaying, it's called reality.
