Re: Report: Magloire was on the table/Toronto Star vs. Rob Babcock [merged]
As speedy said we can sign him in 2 years and i wouldnt mind him and hoffa as our Cs, lets face it Hoffa is never going to be an all-star but i think would be a very good back up C

Re: Report: Magloire was on the table/Toronto Star vs. Rob Babcock [merged]
the obsession continues.
it's unfortunate that some factions of the people and media in this country can't look past the romantic ideal. i honestly don't care where magloire plays now, where he's played in the past, and where he'll play in the future. i wish the people would stop dying for this dream, it just creates that much more noise and distraction around the franchise.
for one thing, we overvalue magloire. that's a fact. people ignore the reality of cba99 here to live in a fictional universe for awhile- the issue of improving the toronto raptors takes a back seat to acquiring the old eastern commerce alum. i honestly believe that if babcock were to have jumped on the offer for jamaal, more people would be upset with that carter trade than they already are with the one that happened. we just need to complain, don't we, we put on the blinders and let our mouths run free- we allow our well documented inferiority complex to take hold.
i still have a problem with the vince trade but not because of what we got (or didn't get): i have a problem with when he was traded and i've stated that all along. i honestly don't care if we got tim duncan in the deal (well...)- i don't think vince should've been traded when he was unless it was a transaction forced by some behind the scenes controversy that couldn't be silenced.
but to complain about not getting magloire is just too bad, imo. i wish we could learn to think outside the box in toronto, i wish the peripheral/superficial basketball fans would make the commitment to understand the more serious issues in the nba before forming an important opinion, i wish the media would take the bull by the horns and ignore such meaningless stories that only serve to complicate matters unnecessarily.
but i've been hoping for these things for a long time, and to no avail. there's almost a resistance around these parts to cannonball into the pool of professional basketball. we continue to lie around the outskirts, and vocally, exchanging cheap opinions that are only the products of cheap, uninformed logic.
i don't care about magloire- like, seriously. do you? i care about winning basketball games. i have no preference for jamaal magloire. if i were forced to choose between a 50-win raptors roster with and without jamaal, he wouldn't make a difference in my selection. i'd side with either team.
(and on a somewhat unrelated note, where are the fans who actually remember how many times magloire snubbed the canadian nats, anyway? the guy was a contributor until he made a name for himself at kentucky and since then... not a single appearance. for that reason, i don't even understand those who follow his career because he's canadian- is he really? only when it's convenient for him?)
this is not a story in my world.
peace

Re: Report: Magloire was on the table/Toronto Star vs. Rob Babcock [merged]
^Ballocks I understand your point, but I also understand peoples fascination (including myself) with getting this guy in a Raptors uniform. It's pretty simple
1. In 10 years of existance, this franchise has yet to secure a legit NBA starting Center. Our best Centers have been an old Kevin Willis and Eric Montross
2. With so much player turnover, players demanding trades, and the negative perceptions around the league about playing in Toronto, having a Toronto native, not just a Canadian, playing here would do wonders for this franchise
I wouldn't mortgage the future of this team to get him here, but in two years if we could sign him, I hope Babcock does everything is his power to do so!

Re: Report: Magloire was on the table/Toronto Star vs. Rob Babcock [merged]
Doug Smith is a complete moron! Did anyone hear him on Bob McCowan's show last night, trashing Rob?
Hey, A-hole, why do you think Rob felt he had to explain the difficulties involved in making a trade at the deadline? Because, from the comments by the local media, they didn't have a clue!! Which leaves the poor uninformed fan (not the readers of this board, tho' ) looking for some answers. Props to Rob for trying to fill the void.
I mean, Smith is paid serious bucks to provide real information about the Raps. The only reason anybody pays the least bit of attention to him is because he gets to hang around the team and listen to what they're saying and what other people are saying about the team. If he can't filter the , pity him. And the Star should tie a can to his @$$

Re: Report: Magloire was on the table/Toronto Star vs. Rob Babcock [merged]
Have I been blind in past seasons, but when did the Toronto BBall press become so horid. The lack of knowledge is embarrasing, I think I'm gonna write a complaint to the Star 's sports editorial section about the blatantly false stuff being written and about other reporters (that will remain nameless) being handed the beat for a team they clearly hate. It makes the city look bad to players and potential free agents aside from the aggrevation for the fans.
I know as the fans on here, we are far more knowledgable than the average fan, but we shouldn't know more than the professional beat writers. I know I can do my job better than some ******* BBall reporter, which is more than they can say.

that scares me a little- in fact that scares me a lot- but i'll reserve reaction for a few years. i'm simply not a big fan of magloire's game right now- i don't hate it, i just don't want the raptors to overpay for the wrong reasons.
peace
