Grunwald To Coach Maccabiah Canadians

Quote:
Former Toronto Raptors general manager Glen Grunwald will help coach Canada's men's basketball team at the Maccabiah Games this summer in Israel.

Held every four years and often referred to as the Olympics for Jewish athletes, the 17th Maccabiah Games will run July 11-21.

Grunwald was fired by the Raptors last year and is now president and CEO of the Toronto Board of Trade.

"It's a great opportunity and gives me a chance to keep my hands in basketball," said Grunwald. "I've been involved in the past, lending support from a fund-raising side, but now I can help with coaching."

Canadian Maccabiah executives Sid Greenberg and Alan Gerskup asked Grunwald to assist head coach John Dore of Concordia University when Atlanta Hawks assistant coach Herb Brown, who had agreed to help Canada, was asked to take over as head coach of the U.S. squad.

"Nothing wrong having a guy like Glen, high profiled and a good judge of talent, helping us out," said Gerskup.
I didn't see this coming, that's for sure. Good to see him finally get another basketball related job though.
