Bosh This Off-Season
Last year everyone was saying how Chris really needed to gain some weight during the off-season, but it's quite evident that he didn't do much of that. Going into this summer, what do you think Bosh will have to work on the most?
What do you want to see from him for next season?

Re: Bosh This Off-Season
I'd like to see him work on his post up game. He seems very comfortable demanding the ball on the high post, but he rarely if ever backs his man down, even if he can. That's the thing he needs to work on the most.

Re: Bosh This Off-Season
I'd like to see him work on playing with his back to the basket. If he could insert that into his arsenal he would be a really difficult assignment for opposing defenses. Right now you can see that he doesn't have too much confidence in that part of his game. Hopefully he can work on that this summer.

Having seen him up close, he gained more than you think.

Anyways...
I think people underestimated his physical condition at the beginning of this season, both in terms of strength and bulk. Very few times this year has he been pushed around. I think it was Duncan that said Chris' strength difference between his rookie season and this year was remarkable.
There are a lot of things I want him to work on this summer. Things that are probably in the scouting report on him these days. I've been thinking about them for a while. I'll list a few now and maybe some more later.
- Ball-handling
Chris has difficulty when he puts the ball on the floor. He is one of the better ball-handling big men in the League but he is vulnerable against opponents with decent lateral movement and/or quick hands. I'd love to see him start to dribble the ball lower and protect it better.
- Passing and resetting out of the double team
Double-teams are going to be coming after Chris next season. He's had a lot of trouble passing out of and getting his offense working in these situations. I'd like the coaches to work with him, and our guards, to determine what the best strategy for overcoming this would be. It will probably mean more touches for Chris deeper in the post, where a guard will have to decide whether to commit to the double team and leave an open shooter in the corner, or get off Chris and preserve the one-on-one situation. Sending cutters into the paint can also break a double team so long as Chris can find them, or find a guard who can touch-pass to the slasher or get the ball around the horn in a hurry. I'd also like to see him work on passing back out when he's doubled, regaining good position, and demanding the ball again. He's done this a bit this year but it's something he needs to develop further, again with the help of our guards.
- Decision making
This is something that will come in time, I suppose. I don't know if he can be at another level from practicing alone. He is still hesitant on the offensive end sometimes, especially in the iso. He needs to get the ball in his hands, survey the scenario, and decide what to do much more quickly. This will also do wonders in limiting the effectiveness of the double. He is an excellent catch-and-shoot player from fifteen to twenty feet, for example. When he uses that to open-up the drive he is almost unstoppable for the majority of power forwards and centres in the League. He needs to set himself up to get the ball in the pass-shoot-drive position with more regularity, and make up his mind in a hurry. Defensively he can improve in help situations better. He is late on sealing-off the baseline sometimes and he rarely pins his player in the low post (under the net) in a position that they can't shoot in. Strength will help in this department, as it will enable him to resist getting bumped and allowing the easy lay-in.
- Aggressiveness and post play
The team is relying on him to be somebody that can lift them out of a lull or put them over the edge if they are on a roll. He needs to demand the ball in these situations. He needs to recognize when he is in a mismatch and punish weaker defenders. Chris' quickness can be an asset on the block but he needs to show more of his arsenal. He has wonderful agility and can get around shotblockers if he establishes good enough position. We've seen him go quarters and halves this season getting two, three shots total, and that's something that has to change (mostly).

I remember I said that opening night he looked a bit bigger and more cut also chis said he tryed to put on muscle but it just woulden't come as for improvement he should expand his jumper and dribbling a consistant J will open the lane for him

I think he needs to stay at it to keep his stamina up. We don't want him to break down like VC. That and a Post game will satisfy me.

Re: Bosh This Off-Season
The running game has improved the conditioning of the entire team this year it seems. Even though we don't always play like a fasbreak team in games, you have to figure we play like that constantly in practice.

Re: Bosh This Off-Season
Pretty much everything speedy said.
Ballhandling needs to improve. General passing skills need to improve. Recognition of double teams and passing out of them need to improve. Post up game needs to improve. I also think his footwork needs to improve, this will help in the post both on offense and defense, as well as his perimeter defenser which is terrible.

Re: Bosh This Off-Season
Have to agree with both speedythief and vigilante.
Also, I'd like for him to develop a respectable back-to-the-basket post game. That would make so much more dangerous on offense, being able to mix it up outside and also down low.
