Thumbs down Vince Carter Won't Walk Away From Nets Game Unscathed

I don't see Vince walking away from Friday's game unscathed. I don't mean that the Raps will be rough with him or whatever, I just think his reputation will take yet another in a long line of hits as a result.

If he plays poorly, it validates the opinion that some Raptors fans hold that he broke-down both mentally and physically over the last few seasons and lost whatever ability he once had to lead the team to success. Those fans will continue to feel that getting rid of Vince did more good for the franchise than keeping him would've, regardless of the return we got for him.

Some Carter fans will point to his level of play in New Jersey as evidence that he is still at or near the top of his game, but the Kidd-effect is undeniable. If Toronto had another player to lead the team and be responsible for the results, someone of Kidd's status and talent, Vince might never have wanted to be traded in the first place. We're talking about a player with incredible natural ability who has openly hoped that he can be the third-in-charge on that Nets team, not somebody who is interested in being the focal point anymore--which exposes the current state of his mind and game.

If Vince plays well, it becomes (even more) obvious that he tanked the early part of the season with us in an effort to expedite the trade process. And after admitting that he didn't try hard or work in the off-season earlier in his NBA career, it casts a huge shadow of doubt over his entire tenure in Toronto. Vince's accountability, especially when put beside someone like Bosh, is erased. He becomes yet another player who wants all the money and fame of being a superstar but is unwilling to sacrifice for the good of the team. Some feel he'd made up his mind as early as last season, just two years after signing a max-money contract extension to be the team's franchise player.

The apologists will claim that Mitchell misused Carter, or that our management team didn't do enough to make him happy or create a winning situation. I personally think that is the opinion of the uninformed or flagrantly biased. Mitchell was willing to run as many plays for Vince as he could handle--Vince didn't want them. They'd set him up and he'd pass the ball away, or step back and take an off-balance three. He wasn't even shooting 70% on his free throws—not to mention shooting the lowest percentages in his career across the board.

As for our management not doing enough for Vince, we re-signed all of the players he demanded the team retain, dumped Oakley, made coaching changes to suit his evolving style of play, valued his opinion in the hiring of the new management team, and above all else treated him like royalty for all but the last few unhappy months of his tenure.

I don't think the Raps are going to beat the Nets. I don't even think it's in their best interest to do so.

However, I think that some Raptors fans who are sickened by the whole situation can take some solace in the fact that Vince will either walk away a has-been or a paper champion in the eyes of the Raptors fan base. I don't think this is a scenario that I've created to justify my personal feelings in the situation. I think this is a very real outcome that Vince has assembled over the past months. I suppose there's always the off-chance that the fans forgive him, or that he apologizes and everything is smoothed-out, but I'd need to be resuscitated if either of those things happened.

Great Post and I agree. However, VC does deserve whatever the Raptors fans give him. He really forced the Raptors Orginaztion to give AW, JYD, AD the big money contract and we were fools to listen. I just dont think all the blame should be put on him. It shows how much of a giver upper he is and will now know how it feels when Kidd is asking for a trade

I also believe that no NBA managnment can listen to a player or their mom cause they aren't in the business and are outsiders. I just think VC tried to take too much control of the team as well as his mom. Glen was to soft to say no and if we had Babcock I am sure most of these things wouldnt have happend. Well maybe not babcock but a strong GM. As I dont know why he let Alonzo walk away for free.

Its gonna be UUUUUUGGGLY on Friday. I was at the first T-Mac game back in T.O. and that was pretty riled up, but it won't be **** compared to this. Even seeing VC on the screen causes deafening boo's, louder than I recall from thre McGrady game. VC burned us much worse than TMac did.

From the title I thought maybe Speedy was planning some Gillooly action on him, a precision assault if you will . . .

I was at Damon's return, Camby's, T-Mac's of those 3 T-Mac got the worst, every time he touched the ball the boos were soo loud this time its more personel for the fans, in Francis return to Vancovar they tossed sever cups I don't know if they will here but they will be saying nastier things to VC than they did to T-Mac.

Oh no Vince boy doesn't like us.
I'm a fan of the team, and while I like individual players, if they screw over the team they are traitors.

Exclamation Re: Vince Carter Won't Walk Away From Nets Game Unscathed

the minute he started demanding his choice of personell for the FO, the fo to sign nash and somehow aqquire magolioreand it got rejected he via 3rd parties SAID wanted out of t.o.
did'nt have the guts to say it to the media
He purpoisely did'nt work out never gave mitchell a chance played like crap on purpose in november-TILL HE WAS DEALT so we get least in return for him as desperation till he got traded which put us a deep hole scrapped this year for us fans, made us suffer watching this squad lose constantly.

and because he helped put us on the map is good enough to warrent all the above?

not to mention his annoying mother like who da hell does she think she is getting into vc's pesonell non family related matters, she really messup up his image, oak was correct when he said "glen grundwald does not run the raptoirs michelle carter does"
must have been her brilliant plan to aqquire hakeem as well as demand a trade and not play to full potential so we got fair value

the minute he screwed our franchise is the day fans have everyright to say whatever to him throw if they want beer at him on friday.

This is worse than the francis Vancouvar issue as francis clearly indicated he did not want in play in vancouvar before the draft.

Let the fans Rip VC, I wanna see his facial expressions on the court hearing all the taunts and his sad face. .

Something you could do is bring that red VC jersey and burn it or something. It'd draw a crowd for sure!

Whoa lets not try to be like Italians soccer fans here

We're civillized people, I'm sure there will be a lot of boos and taunts against Vince but to start throwing anything at him is complete idiocy.
