Who Will Have A Bigger Impact: Sow Or Hoffa?
Compare Pape Sow and Rafael Araujo with one another. Who will be the better player?
Who do you guys think will have a bigger impact on our team in the years to come?
It seems like Pape Sow is more raw, but he definately has a higher ceiling than Hoffa IMO.

Re: Who Will Have A Bigger Impact: Sow Or Hoffa?
You said it yourself, Sow is much more raw. The thing with Hoffa is that the skill is there, we've seen it in flashes (albeit brief), and the potential to do something with it is also evident. All he needs to do is get his head on straight on the court. And that can happen through playing experience, practice, summer leagues, etc.
Right now people are comparing Sow to Ben Wallace because he hustles and plays hard. On a pure talent level he isn't at NBA standards yet. He has the size and the instincts that give him potential, and he supposedly has the work ethic that can help him reach that potential. However, at this point, I don't think it's about who has the higher ceiling, but rather who has less to do in order to reach that ceiling, which would undeniably be Hoffa.
Think of it this way - if both players were chunks of wood to be carved, Sow would only be sculpted a little, while Hoffa would be all but ready to be painted. Does that make any sense?

I compare Sow's game to a JYD or a Bo Outlaw. Sow, if he learns to control himself, can be that type of player that will try to out-hustle and out-work you.

That's what makes Ben wallace so great, he tries to out hustle you and out work you and 90% of the time he succeeds, Pape is in the stage where he always tries, but may not really get there quite yet.

Re: Who Will Have A Bigger Impact: Sow Or Hoffa?
i don't know who'll come bigger, but i'm happy they're both raptors. sure, there are those who continue to question hoffa's selection last june (myself included), but i think this man will eventually become valuable. i don't know if he'll ever become "starter-calibre", he might not, but i think he'll become an asset. and that's saying quite a bit considering i don't think of him as an asset this season. not at all.
sow's the same way. i don't see him as an asset right now. still, i like the intangibles he brings, the fabric he builds with je-ne-sais-quoi character traits, i think he'll become valuable. he might not ever start consistently but i think he can contribute "positive minutes" on a regular basis. that's good enough.
it'll be fun to watch the rest of their development. i think this year's picks are increasingly crucial in building the future of the franchise, though, and therefore building the ultimate roles for sow and araujo. like i said, i don't see either one as being a key cog in our lineup at any point in the future, they're reliant on the players around them. and one chris bosh (imo) isn't enough.
june is enormous.
peace

Re: Who Will Have A Bigger Impact: Sow Or Hoffa?
Right now you have to say Pape has a long way to go just to get to JYD level. Ben Wallace level is just a pipe dream today. He could get there but not many guys do.
Sow needs to get much stronger because he is undersized. JYD is strong. Oak was strong. Guys like Fortson and the other Seattle guy and Ekezie in Atlanta all get the job done because of bulk and good movement and tenacity. Sow can't match that strength right now.
We won't know about him for at least 2 more seasons.
Hoff has pretty good instincts, decent shooting touch, good strength and just needs to get comfortable on the court and learn his role. Too nervous and trying too hard right now. Next year should be much better.

Re: Who Will Have A Bigger Impact: Sow Or Hoffa?
Yup, gotta go with Hoffa here. He's going to be our full-time starting center and bruiser come next season (mark my works). Sow should be a nice roleplayer off the bench if there's room for him in the lineup (depends on the draft) and he's going to continue improving but he's not going to have the impact that Hoffa will as our starting C.
OT- don't be suprised to see Hoffa, Bonner, and Sow starting together come summer league- I wouldn't want to be going against them.

I hope that Hoffa works out for you guys because I really liked him before the draft and have been surprised by his struggles this season, I thought he'd step right in and contribute significantly.

Re: Who Will Have A Bigger Impact: Sow Or Hoffa?
I know I have been overrating Sow, but I really see him as a valuable player off the bench in the future. Like someone mentioned, a Bo Outlaw player that comes off the bench with tons of energy and defensive intensity. But I just think he has the ability to become better than a guy like that, or maybe I am too optimistic.
As for Hoffa, the skills are there. It's really just a mental thing right now.. getting used to the fast pace of the NBA game. It may scare people that he hasn't gotten used to it yet, but his playing time has been erratic this year, so its pretty hard to judge him.
I say Hoffa.. Bud_boy made an excellent point in saying that Hoffa's skills are there, while Sow has to still develop all of his skills. Hoffa needs to work on the mental part of his game, while Sow still has a long way to go in the skill department.
