Ford's take on what the Raptors should do...

Quote:
TORONTO RAPTORS
Players they might lose: Matt Bonner (R), Donyell Marshall, Milt Palacio

Players they might pursue: Dan Gadzuric (R) or Zaza Pachulia (R).

Current cap position: $56.2 million ($6.7 million over the cap)

Analysis: The Raptors will make a strong run at re-signing Bonner, but will likely lose Marshall and Palacio in free agency.

The Raptors know that free agents won't flock to Toronto. They need a center badly, but there isn't one on the free-agent market, other than someone like Gadzuric or Pachulia.

Toronto's real work this summer will be trying to work on some trades that move players like Eric and Aaron Williams, Lamond Murray and possibly Rafer Alston. They need depth everywhere and trades may be the best option for Toronto.

Re: Ford's take on what the Raptors should do...

Babcock has stated that signing Bonner is a priority for the off season, I would place a bet that the "Red Rocket" will be in a Raptor's uniform for 05/06. As for being able to go out and get a center via free agency....not going to happen, a trade is the only way that something will get done. Who and where we trade will be something worth following, I personaly am looking forward to seeing what Rob is able to do to tweek the roster, just a little, and have a team that will be the same at the end of the season as it was at the start, by that I am talking about the core, a role player or two may change.

By anyone, do you include Bonner, and if yes, why would they not re-sign him.

If we could sign a Dan Gadzuric or a ZaZa Pachulia, Rob Babcock would move up as a better GM, in my books.

It might be a longshot but I read in a ny paper website that NJ is looking to get Donyell or SAR in a sign and trade with their trade exception. If they do, it could mean some kind of pick coming to Toronto.

Re: Ford's take on what the Raptors should do...

we dun have the money to compete for Donyell, quote by Babcock, how can we do a sign and trade? We only have 5mil mid lvl exception to spend...lets say 1mil goes to Matt and Sow together (they we at least take up 2 mil), but u think 4 mil will be enough to sign Yell?

Re: Ford's take on what the Raptors should do...

We have Donyell's bird rights meaning we can sign him to a max contract if we wanted to. The only thing is, in a sign and trade we'd have to take back an exception or trade him to a team with cap space because I doubt the Raps would want to take back a salary worth 5-8mil....that would put us in luxury tax territory.

Re: Ford's take on what the Raptors should do...

He's right in saying we should be looking at persuing some trades. We can't head into the next season with the roster the way it is now.

My predictions:

Marshall will not get an offer from Toronto;
Palacio will not get an offer from Toronto;
Murray will be waived;
Woods will be retained;
Omar Cook will sign for the minimum;
Bonner, Sow, and Ukic will be signed.

Opening Day Roster:

Alston, Araujo, Bonner, Bosh, Cook, Graham, Peterson, Sow, Rose, Ukic, Villanueva, Williamsł, Woods.

They are trying and players who want minutes want to come here they liked Gadzuric and worked him out alot before teh 02 draft. Lots of footage of him on "behind the draft" - with bogut there I think he would want out.
