Rumour: Re-Signing Donyell Marshall?
Rumours have several teams interested in Marshall, including the Sixers, Bulls, Nets, Heat, and some others. They also have Toronto as an interested party.
Donyell would get the most money from us, presumably. It's unlikely that a team with cap space (like Cleveland or New Orleans) would go after him because he's getting on in years.
With the contracts we've been seeing lately, and that will eventually be the way the new CBA does things, I think you can expect Donyell to command at least the full MLE (~$5M base).
So, three questions....
1) Who do you rank as the top team in contention for Marshall's services?
2) How much is he going to get, and for how many years?
3) Would it make sense for Toronto to re-sign Marshall, given our current roster make-up and team direction?

Re: Rumour: Re-Signing Donyell Marshall?
1. gonna throw one out there that's not listed in the mix, but i want Marshall to land in Phoenix. not so much as the top ranked of who is interested but the top ranked of who would benefit from marshall's services imo. Seattle is a close second.
2. i don't think the 'wine tastes better as it gets older' rule applies to donyell. i'm going for the good ol', famous 3 year MLE salary on this one, 5 at the max but no salary bigger than MLE pay.
3. it'd make sense for toronto to sign him...en route to a sign-and-trade deal. names like antonio daniels come to mind, but as far as keeping him on the roster, i don't see it happening. with the bevy of young big men we have, keeping him would be a waste of resources, donyell's or someone else's.
luda will be missed in raptorland.

I thought we were trying to go forwards, not backwards. I doubt we re-sign him unless it's to a very good (for us) deal.

Re: Rumour: Re-Signing Donyell Marshall?
I would like to see a sign and trade with Marshall, we are going in a different direction now and this is the perfect time for us to maximize Marshall's value. Get some good young talent, some people say Daniels from the Sonics but Duhon is intriguing as well in Chicago.
Peace

Re: Rumour: Re-Signing Donyell Marshall?
aren't we at like 60 million already? wasn't the reason for not trading him during the season that we needed his salary gone?
no way we sign him imo. Or s/t him, or sign Daniels or anyone else beside maybe bonner/sow. Maybe not even them
what happened to that salary thread? it was awesome

Re: Rumour: Re-Signing Donyell Marshall?
I'm not sure what the Nets are planning. I know they want SAR but there's got to be another team out there willing to offer him more than the MLE. They seem to want either Swift or Marshall as their back-up plan. Swift is a Kidd-ready player, but he doesn't have a lot of skills or experience. And he's not somebody they could put beside Krstic and expect to have a tough frontcourt.
I suspect that Marshall will go to Chicago if they can't keep Chandler. I think Curry will wind-up in Atlanta on an undeserved max deal, which they'll be regretting moments after signing him to it.
So if the first two scenarios play out [Nets get SAR, Bulls get Chandler back] I suspect that Marshall will sign in Seattle for their MLE as a replacement for Reggie Evans. Marshall has a lot of similar skills to Radmanovich but he is steadier and provides them with even more offensive firepower, putting them right over the top when it comes to three-point shooting and fast break scoring.
I see Marshall getting the MLE with 8%'s for four years. The team will push for three, his agent will push for five, and they'll settle on four. So I suppose that's 4 years, $22.4M.
As for the Raptors, like many of you I don't see the point in bringing him back. Not only would it cut into our planned cap-space for the summer of 2007, it would probably prevent Bonner, Sow, Villanueva, etc. from getting the minutes they need. Plus it would prevent us from changing the culture of this team in terms of establishing more post game and defensive intensity and less jump-shooting and floating.
Bringing back Marshall [for more than 2 seasons] would be a sign to me that Babcock has no obvious direction, that he was full of **** when he said he valued the expiring contract Marshall provided, and that he's afraid of letting this team slip deeper into the lottery, despite the advantage it would bring us in the near future with another top recruit.

A new one will be born when I can get information on the contracts Bonner, Sow, and Ukic will sign. The old one was outdated.

Re: Rumour: Re-Signing Donyell Marshall?
no chance Donyell is a Raptor next year.
I just hope he goes to a serious contender (Miami, Phoenix ect), cause he is one of my favourite players and I wouldn't want to see him with one of our division rivals (NJ, Philly ect)
My dream would have been for him to end up in SanAntonio, but since Horry resigned, there is no chance of that

that is the only question that matters - the answer is no.
Marshall is not a vocal leader, durable or stopper - a great guy... this is a youth movement.
And lastly he was pimping out his act during the final quarter of the season which was not cool (in Philly and NJ).

Re: Rumour: Re-Signing Donyell Marshall?
Vigilante summed it up in another thread; signing 'Yell would be ok, only if we were to trade him later on.
At this stage, I'd much rather give Donyell's minutes to a host of other players.

Re: Rumour: Re-Signing Donyell Marshall?
If he signs it's only for a s/t deal, and I would have asked a First-round draft pick in return.
Or... a trade that will involve more players.
No way he's staying a Rap.
Bonner and Sow will be in Toronto next year. I'm sure of that.

Re: Rumour: Re-Signing Donyell Marshall?
We have too many big men as it is. No way Donyell stays. We would only re-sign him if we are trying to do a sign and trade with another team. I think the top runners for Marshall's services right now are the Sixers, Bulls and Nets.

If Seattle is not interested this all pure speculation.
