OT: Jays may make run at '08 all-star game

DETROIT (CP) - The all-star game is headed back to the American League in 2008, and the Toronto Blue Jays are thinking about making a run at it.
The Blue Jays last hosted the all-star game on July 9, 1991, a 4-2 win for the AL. But with the renovations the club is making to its Rogers Centre home, president Paul Godfrey believes the time is right for a return to Toronto.
''I am seriously considering bidding for 2008, as it would fit in with the updates of the Rogers Centre,'' said Godfrey.
The 2006 all-star game will be hosted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and will remain in the National League for 2007 in San Francisco.
Commissioner Bud Selig said earlier Tuesday that the all-star game would head back to an AL city in 2008 and possibly 2009 as well.
Hosting the event would give Toronto's economy a nice little boost.
The Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates this all-star week's economic impact on the city to be nearly $55 million US.

Last game was in 1992. Without a new park, and the fact that there was an all-star game here ONLY 16 years ago, I give them about chances of 250:1.

The Blue Jays have spent millions updating the Rogers Centre addind new Field Turf and a new scoreboard. Plus the next two All Star games will be in National league parks, so theres a good chance that the 2008 and 2009 all star games will be held in American League Parks

Thry are going to need more than just Field Turf, new scoreboards like drastic facelift in designs to get the game here.

If the jays continue to renovate the stadium, I see no reaon why they can't try for it.
The game will be in the AL, how many new parks are there left to celebrate.
Baltimore had theirs. Detroit, Seattle too. Other than that they are all old.
