Globe & Mail: Nash's national commitment winds down

Quote:
For about a decade, Canada rode Steve Nash's coattails through thick and thin at international basketball events, but the journey appears to be over.

The most valuable player in the National Basketball Association last season said the demands of fatherhood and advancing age make it unlikely he will play for his country again.

"Right now, I don't know if I'll play for Canada any more," the 31-year-old point guard for the Phoenix Suns said yesterday. "I have two little daughters now and a family. We play so many games every year [in the NBA], physically it becomes less and less probable. But stranger things have happened.

"You never know down the road if I get the itch. But I had a great run. I really enjoyed playing with the national team. Playing for your country is such a gift. I'll miss it, but I don't know if I can afford to do it any more."...

Re: Globe & Mail: Nash's national commitment winds down

Call it a hunch, but I predict Nash will be competing for Canada in the 2008 Olympics, that is if Canada qualifies.

I doubt he competes at any of the world Championships, or other internatational Basketball tournaments, but after 3 years of resting in the offseason, he might decide to lace it up for Canada one last time

He would be 34 years old in 2008, so it's not like he would be over the hill by then, and he could still help Canada

Would we qualify without him not playing in the qualifiers... unlikely.
