Re: Report: Roko has opt out in 2007
The whole situation is disappointing but if he's a better player in the end than it's hard to be that upset. After all, it's not like we're going places with or without him other than the lottery.

don't be so sure - he is a competitor and would love to measure himself against the worlds best. I think he wants to come into the NBA as a more established player and certain to play more.
I think this may yet be a rosey ending. In the mean time it allows the Raptors to stockpile more talent and not be pressured in to playing them - but still have them improve.

Re: Report: Roko has opt out in 2007
I think he will, and I think he timed that exit intentionnaly...
The only reason he isn't here this year, it's because the Raps didn't have enough cash to spend on him. He would've lost money this year to come to TOR, with his buyout.
In 2007, he knows that the Raptors will be under the cap, and he'll be able to cash in big time ...
Write it down, Roko mania will hit TDot in 2007.

We had enough money to a fair contract. We don't know what was offered, so we don't know whethere the Raptors were being cheap, or Roko was being greedy. I'll go with the latter.

Re: Report: Roko has opt out in 2007
He was offered around 1 000 000 $ / season pretty sure, he had a big Buyout.
He was offered more from Tau and they are paying the full amount of the buyout ... Raps could only offer 350 000 $ as per league policy.

And he could have payed the rest of his buyout with the contract that he was being paid. The buyout was reportedly 700,000.

IF this is TRUE and this is a BIG IF then it is a great development for the Raptors because;
1.There is NO BUYOUT.
2.The RAPTORS do NOT have to pay him while he develops.
3.The Raptors can see how he develops in the next 2 years.
4.The Raptors have a lot of cap space in 2007.

Re: Report: Roko has opt out in 2007
I predict that we end up trading Roko's rights and that he never plays a single game for the Raps.
We need the PG situation resolved NOW. We can't wait and hope that Roko will come here in 2 years and contribute big things. Not as a rookie with not one minute of nba experience and no chemistry with any of his teammates.
So I expect the Raps to get a solid starting PG this year or next who will get to prove himself and bond with the team. Which would leave Roko looking at backup minutes, and probably backup money, with the Raps. So he won't come.
