Kevin Willis Back To The Raps?
Quote:
Aside from an NBA proven backup point guard, Babcock admitted the Raptors are looking for a veteran big man who can provide some leadership to youngsters Rafael Araujo and Loren Woods, who remain the only two centres under contract.
Kevin Willis, at 42 the oldest player in the NBA last season, has expressed interest in returning to Toronto on a one-year contract and would fit the Raptor needs.

Re: Kevin Willis Back To The Raps?
Here are the facts
1. Babcock looking for a big man
2. Willis interested in signing with anybody who will give him a job (hell he signed with Atlanta)
3. Willis could not get any minutes on a craptastic team, who was not only playing "youth" up front.
Not even a valid point to discuss - just an idea by a sportwriter who did a horrid job of connecting the dots.

Re: Kevin Willis Back To The Raps?
Facts or No, I would hire him as a coach/player for sure. Dude knows a lot. He is like the Gary Roberts of the NBA. Dude works out HARD.
He is friends with Larry Tannenbaum, but that means little.

All good points.
He is the kind of veteren leader we need on the team. Definately bringing more positives to the table than a player like Rose.
I see him taking playing time when Loren Woods decides to go on one of his mental mid-game vacations.

I'm all for Willis coming and giving Araujo some hardcore training. Even if he's not going to play another game with us....

why do you say that about rose? i think he is a perfectly good person and he should have the reputation that he does

Re: Kevin Willis Back To The Raps?
I just don't think that he sets a good example for the rest of the team. PUBLICLY complaining being the most serious.

Re: Kevin Willis Back To The Raps?
I'd hire him as an Assistant Coach.
Not as a player.
The guy is ancient.
Was drafted with MJ, Ser Charles and Hakim. Not good...

Re: Kevin Willis Back To The Raps?
Is he really better than Loren Woods at this point in his career (let alone Hoffa)? He may be a good vet but even good vets aren't that great a locker room/bench presence when they get absolutely zero minutes on the floor. If we somehow traded A-train, acquiring Willis would have a marginally bigger impact.
Obviously if we get him for the veteran's minimum I won't complain too much. He is a good character and is hella tough and he fits in with the pumping weights mentality of our new team.

Re: Kevin Willis Back To The Raps?
The guy is done. He couldn't get any time on an Atlanta team that had absolutely no one up front last year.
Like BUTR said, I would gladly hire him as a coach, because of his locker room presence. But not as a player where he will take up a roster spot.
