Some Bonner news..
In the Calderon article in the Sun:
Quote:
Bonner and the Raptors were not in the same stratosphere when they first started talking. According to sources, Bonner wanted a five-year pact at about $3.5 million annually, while the Raptors countered with a two- or three-year deal at about $1.8 million annually.
Now the Raptors have decided to wait and see what kind of contract Bonner commands on the open market, since Toronto has the right to match.

Very interesting. I am very glad that Babs didn't accept that deal, because Bonner is certainly not worth it. If he wants that type of Bonner, hopefully he can find it elsewhere. The deal we offered him, thats a fair deal for both sides. Now it looks like we're going to wait until another team offers him a deal, and see if we want to match. I like how Babs is playing this.

Re: Some Bonner news..
Scalabrine signed for like five years, fifteen million, right? I know that was an Ainge signing but if that's the contract we're looking at for Bonner I don't think it hurts us to match. Otherwise we'll get him for even less.

Re: Some Bonner news..
I think of something between..
4 years $2.5 mil/yr.
But even the contract his agent offered isn't so bad.

5 years/17.5 isn't too bad for a one dimensional player who very likely won't get any better?
I like Bonner and all, but I think that is overpaying big time. The absolute max I would give Bonner is 2.0-2.5 million.

Testify..
Raps fans love the kid, but that doesn't entitle him to a big contract. And i think that 2 mil is as high as he will be able to get here or on the open market.
Be strong Babs, don't screw this one up.

Hopefully that's what we get him for. I don't see any NBA team really wanting to overpay for him, so we might not even have to match. Bonner's agent will just have to accept less money.
It's the agent that's holding up this process, as always. Bonner would sign for less right away. But the agent wants a nicer slice. It's always the case, though, isn't it?

Re: Some Bonner news..
If there is so much interest in Matt, he would have had an offer so far.
Why should the Raps offer anything. Same with Tyson and Eddy in Chicago, let them sign their best offer elsewhere and match it if low enough.
