Re: How do we match up...
At the end of November if the Raptors are better than 4 - 12, that will be a surprise. I fear that the Raptors will not jell as a thinking basketball team this or next season because they are under reconstruction. This will force Bosh to decide if he still wants to invest his future in Toronto because it is likely that the Raptors are on a 3-5 year rebuilding adventure. Just look at the remaining roster for the 2007 - 2008 season and you will quickly come to the conclusion that a lot of holes will have to be filled around Bosh.
My suspicion is that in 2007, Bosh will be playing for some Texas-based NBA team ... which is his home state and that is where his family lives. With better expose in the States he will command more respect and more money, and that's what it's all about. Raptors will have to trade him to respect his desires to move on.
Sure he will say he loved his stay in Toronto, as most of the NBA stars who started here will say, but Bosh has to consider his long-term career potential, and it certainly will not be on a Raptor team that is forever hunting for undiscovered talent, because high draft picks will refuse to play for the insignificant Raptors.
That's why the Raptors must work to attract good European talent for our market and players who will feel privileged to play in the NBA regardless of the team. And perhaps Villanueva was picked as a future replacement for Bosh when he probably leaves by 2007, because the Raptors will not be realistically able to assemble a contending team by that time.
No amount of fan love and devotion will keep him in Canada with the struggling Raptors franchise - which is not exactly the dream team for new rookie players coming into the NBA.
So lets just enjoy Bosh, as we did Carter and others as they found it necessary to leave the Raptors for greener pastures in their own country and culture.
So what will it take to assemble a contending winning team in Toronto --- a $100,000,000 payroll ???
