Will Bonner Be In A Raptors Uni Next Season?

As all of you know, this whole re-signing Bonner situation has been shaky at best thus far. I'm sure Babcock's attempt to lure Chris Duhon here didn't do Bonner any good.
Will Babcock still be able to come to terms with Bonner and his agent, and finally sign that deal that we've all been waiting for?

Re: Will Bonner Be In A Raptors Uni Next Season?

I think we're waiting for Matt to get an offer from another team so we can match it.

Another team would be silly to make him an offer, though. We don't have any other pressing needs, really. We're not like Chicago who has a bunch of players up in the air. Matching Bonner would be a no-brainer.

Have to wonder what is taking so long. Bonner wants to be back with the team desperately. And we have a preseason game in New Hampshire, so obviously we want him back just as much. I'm going to continue my vendetta against player agents and pin this whole mess on Bonner's. Greed is a terrible thing.

It is possible after the Free Agent SG's sort themselves out that another team will make an offer for Matt, but I still don't see any team negotiating for the Raptors by giving him an offer sheet.

Re: Will Bonner Be In A Raptors Uni Next Season?

It all depends on if Babcock decides to go out and sign another point guard like Earl Watson. That would basically eliminate the possibility of Bonner coming back.

I could see Bonner and his agent taking the first deal Babcock offered him after realizing that they cannot get any better from any other team.

The last thing you want to do is over pay this guy. I say just let him walk. I see no point in bringing him back unless you need a shooter really bad. If thats the case, go sign Steve Smith or Wes Person for the league minimum...

Re: Will Bonner Be In A Raptors Uni Next Season?

I think Babcock is trying to find a good backup for both point and the 2 first, if he couldn't find one, he is just going to pay Bonner with like 2.5m/yr from the MLE and watever is left is probably not enough to do anything....

Re: Will Bonner Be In A Raptors Uni Next Season?

I think he will be back... but it depends if Babcock wants a point guard like Watson or Cook/Best? Cook/Best= Bonner Watson = No Bonner

Babcock is doing the smart thing and that is wait till someone offers Bonner a contract and then match it just like what we did to the Bulls (Duhon).

Bonner is supposedly going to sign with the Raps for a 2 year, 4 million dollar deal.

Re: Will Bonner Be In A Raptors Uni Next Season?

Raptors have signed Bonner to a 2 year $4 mill contract, but that should be an indicator that Babcock does not intend to keep Bonner beyond 2 years, either by trade or by release. Babcock is forced to rebuild the Raptors and it will be a 3 - 5 year project. His only source of talent will be through the rookie draft and European players. No decent NBA FA player will consider Toronto as a step up in his basketball career, and besides they really don't want to live in Toronto.

If you take a sober look at the Raptors, all the team is composed of are scrubs, overpaid veterans coasting to retirement and with no room for improvement, and some rookies of unknown potential.

Bosh must be reevaluating his situation in Toronto and considering leaving for a developed contending team ... which the Raptors will not be with the current crew.

Bonner's short 2 year contract should tip off everybody that big changes will happen to the Raptors in the next two seasons ... or else Bosh is gone.

Re: Will Bonner Be In A Raptors Uni Next Season?

I completely disagree. The Raptors WILL NOT let Bosh go. They finally have found a player to build the team around and they will hang on to him. He is going to be one of the most dominant 4's or 5's in the league. The Raptors will keep Bonner depending on how he plays in the next 2 years. There is no guarantee that anyone goes anywhere. Graham and Villeneuva show potential and could turn out to have a big impact on the team. That's all.
