Gerald Wallace

I know were already stacked at the forward positions but I think we should make an offer to Gerald Wallace. He's still young at 22 and athletic (6'7 215 lbs) and put up some good stats last year in Charlotte (11.1 PPG 5.50 RPG 2.0 APG). He is also a very solid defender ranking #9 in the NBA in Steals Per Game(1.67), #19 in the NBA in Steals(117.0) and #8 in the NBA in Steals per 48 Minutes. An di dont't think he would be too expensive.

Thoughts?

Gerald would be a great addition, but I don't see Charlotte giving up there only half decent swingman for whatever we can offer them (next to nothing)

Re: Gerald Wallace

Gerald Wallace is a very good player imo.

I don't think he will be asking for a cheap contract at all. I believe he will look for at least something close to full MLE money for a number of years. We have almost nothing left ... we signed Calderon and probably Bonner already (3/5 of mle gone there? ). A 2 million dollar yearly salary contract for Gerald Wallace looks like a joke.

Re: Gerald Wallace

I thought he had an extremely disappointing season in Charlotte. He had a chance to look like a superstar on an expansion team with no big scorers and he couldn't get it done. That's a bad sign.

He was the big name from their expansion draft and I expected him to have a breakout year. He didn't. Certainly hasn't proved he is worth anything more than 2-3 mill, and even with that you are paying partially for 'potential'.

He reminds me a lot of what we are getting with Joey Graham.

I pass, our roster is already too big.

i think an improvement in every major stat category in a year and becoming an elite defender and proved he can also play offense with that 28pt game of his

Well one thing he did prove was that he was one of the better perimeter defenders in the league. He had developed into a defensive stopper.

He still has a lot of work to do on his game, but he had shown improvement over the year. I would give him the full MLE or close to it, because like you said, I'm paying for the potential. That is a risk you have to take sometimes.
