Re: Will Mike James opt out?
I think that Washington will try to bring him, since they need a SG/PG combo player, and Atkins have asked for a move... I guess that they'll maybe offer Atkins+Booth for Mike James and Aaron Williams (since they need a PF too)

Re: Will Mike James opt out?
Well if he keeps playing like he has lately, he'll definately be appreciated in Toronto. But I have a feeling he'll probably opt out and sign a contract with a better team.

Re: Will Mike James opt out?
I don't think he will because it allows him to make decent guaranteed money, while getting more court time than he would recieve anywhere else in the league.

To sum it up, he is looking for a permanent team to play on. He wants to be appreciated and i dont think he minds whether its here or anywhere else. I think he will opt out to look for that permanent home he's been looking for.

Re: Will Mike James opt out?
Exactly, Rob won't offer him the length of contract James is seeking, he'll be gone.
the better question is, will they get anything for him?

mmm... no thanks! I'd say we are giving up two equal or greater players then what we are getting. Booth is a two year deal and Aaron Williams is only a one year deal with a team option on year two. Anyways, I don't see any reason for the Raps to do this deal.
Thanks..

Re: Will Mike James opt out?
I guess the length of his contract he wants after this one is the main factor (as I don't think he'll get much more than 4 mill a season). I guess a lot will depend on what his agent is hearing about the market for his services.
I was hoping Yell could be flipped for youth and I guess I'll do the same with MJ.

Re: Will Mike James opt out?
I think James will opt out. With his stats, he could opt out and easily find another team who will sign him based on his past accomplishments (successful season with the Raps, 1 championship with Detroit where he did play an important role), get paid bigger bucks, and on a contract that will last more than 2 years.
HOWEVER, if he is to opt out, I think we should consider dealing him before we lose him for nothing, à la Marshall. Maybe a trade to the Grizz, the Hawks or a contending team would help us out.
HOWEVER #2, like it has been mentionned a few times in the James-to-Grizz thread, I think that we shouldn't underestimate the intangibles that MJ brings to our team. With James on board, I'm confident that in 90% of our games, we have a fighting chance of winning it because of his scoring and defense. And if we want to develop a winning culture, we might be better off keeping him even if its for half a season. Half a season can really affect a team's morale, it's outlook on it's own future, etc. And anyways, even if we trade James, I doubt that we get more than a borderline prospect and a pick, and honestly, I don't think we need anymore picks.
So, yeah... He'll opt out IMO, so we should be asking ourselves:
What will we do with James before the trade deadline?

Re: Will Mike James opt out?
He will opt out if he does not get an extension from whatever team has him.
I don't think it's an issue of playing in Toronto. He probably just wants a 3/4 yr, 12-18M contract to finish his career, wherever that may be.., and the time to strike is at the end of this year.

Re: Will Mike James opt out?
Don't let him walk away like Donyell. Lets try and get something for him. Realistically the guy is a fringe starter on most NBA teams. As instances arrise a la Memphis with starting PGs going down with injuries, I think that we should be able to get something for him.
I would like to see him out before the trade deadline.

Re: Will Mike James opt out?
I honestly think we will try to trade him... based on the trade market (or lack of it last year) I 'm not sure we can get much. One young piece (who may or may not pan out) would be a good trade for me.

I think he's gone before he has a chance to opt out with us,
