Will Mike James opt out?

Do you think Mike James will opt out after this season.

He'll be in line for $3.72 million next season.

Would he be guaranteed more than that in the open market? Would any teams be able to offer the role that Toronto can? (assuming we don't draft a PG with our first pick and Roko stays with Tau)

What do you think? Is he actually in high demand (take a look at the demand for Earl Watson last summer for a comparison)? Does he like the situation in Toronto?

I'm leaning towards him not exercising his opt out.

Re: Will Mike James opt out?

I hope he doesn't but I bet he will.

James is having a career year and would be crazy not to capitalize on that.

He'd be great on a team like Minny or Seattle or maybe even the Spurs.

Re: Will Mike James opt out?

I assume Rob has been getting phone calls from nearly every playoff team wondering if he's on the block and what it would take to get him.

I think there is a very high probability that James opts-out. Not because he doesn't like Toronto, just because it is his chance to sign a four or five year deal that would ensure that he's set for life. Mike's been talking a lot about stabliity and finding a team to remain with; he's tired of floating around the NBA.

IMO, and it's a tough situation, there is a 50/50 chance Rob trades him for a young player or two before the deadline. It would hurt the team initially--especially guys like Chris and Mo who really want to win basketball games--but this is the Donyell Marshall situation all over again and I don't see Rob letting another asset walk out the door for nothing.

Re: Will Mike James opt out?

I don't think there is any question that he opts out of his current contract. He is looking for a bigger, longer contract and will likely demand one based on current performance.

The question is will he resign with toronto?

I believe that will be determined by the quality of the contract offered. I'm going to guess that babs doesn't outbid the highest offer.

I don't think he will, but in the case her does I think he'll try to sign with a team that's close to (or could be) Houston

I totally agree.
Mike proves this year that he is a valuable player in this league, and I'm sure he'll want an upgrade.

Re: Will Mike James opt out?

Of course he'll opt out. He's been playing fantastic basketball and will be looking for a bigger contract worth more money. Also, although he is positive in the situation with Toronto, I don't think he plans to stick around here for the long term. I can bet you that he will sign with one of the teams in Texas, as he has family in that area.

Maybe. He says he loves the city of Toronto though.

Re: Will Mike James opt out?

Definitely. He's proven now that he can play, and if the Raptors finish with 25-30 wins, he'll get a nice looking contract somewhere else in the league.

Re: Will Mike James opt out?

its not the fact that he doesnt like the city, its the fact that we may not have the money to sign him.. how many players have been signed to lucrative contracts because of one good season after so many being a journeyman? ie eric dampier, adonal foyle, tim thomas, rafer alston.. the list goes on. have any of them done anything after they got signed? nope. so if james wants more than 5 mil for a long period of time, i say let him go or trade him cause after all, he is 30 years old.
