Talking OTR: Bosh confident he'll remain a Raptor

Bosh was on Off The Record.

He essentially explained his understanding of restricted free agency, saying that Toronto had "everything in their favour" going into negotiations with him when the time comes.

He is waiting to see what his monetary value is to Toronto, while at the same time trying to prove that he is a franchise player worth their investment. But he's bright enough to know that the max is in his future.

He said outright that he is confident things will work out and he will remain in Toronto.

He had some other, less groudshaking things to say, including that he thinks Artest wouldn't be a good fit in Toronto, that he is one of the locker room leaders along with Mo, Mike, and JR, that he was sick when they filmed the intro video (which is why he isn't in it) though he didn't sound upset he wasn't involved, and his dunk on Magloire was his favourite.

He also said that Detroit didn't make a mistake by drafting Milicic, in his eyes, because Bosh thinks he wound up in the right place.

If anyone who saw the episode has anything to add please do so as I am recapping a recap.

Re: OTR: Bosh confident he'll remain a Raptor

Dont get me wrong, i think bosh is great and toronto should do everything they can to keep him. But the max?
Minnesota has cap trouble cause they have kg signed to the max and it hurts the team cause he uses up like half the cap.
Well, i guess that toronto probably wont be signing any big free agents either, so it doesnt matter as much.
Anyways, its great that bosh said he would remain a raptor, it just seems like if he were, on the lakers for example, this wouldn't be such an issue.

Garnett was signed to his deal before the new CBA, meaning that his deal is bigger than anything that can be offered now. I believe he's making 18 mil this year with 2 mil increases until 2008/2009. The new max contracts start at 12 mil a year (please someone who's a cap expert verify this).

Anyway, if we don't give it to him someone else will. The guy seems to like it here, and now that he has said this, I hope that people will f*** off with all of the paranoid 'Bosh is going to leave' talk, or "if we don't keep Mike James, Chris will bolt' talk. Bosh isn't a dumb guy, and Mike James is not the type of player that someone would demand a trade over.

Great news. You should show that to some of the guys in the NBA general forum, who basically guaranteed Bosh was going to leave the Raps. I don't think so!

I think Garnett's contract is actually already well in the 20's - or it used to be before his last extension. And you are correct.. the only reason is because it was signed pre the CBA reached in February 1999 whereby a max contract of around $12M is now the start. So the situations are nowhere near close.

So Mo76 is just another out of towner, with a little knowledge about everything, but not much knowledge about anything..

Correct me if I'm wrong but Garnett's deal is not max. The max Garnett could have recieved would have been annual raises of about 12% on the 22 or 22 million he recieved in the last year of his previous contract.

I think Bosh's max contract would start at around 12 mil with annual raises of the 12%

You're right, you can listen to a 4 or 5 minute slice of the interview (with the meaty bits) at tsn.ca under podcast, where you can get an mp3 file.

C'mon now, there are lots of Torontonians, including some on this board, who don't understand the ramifications of the CBA and the difference between then and now.
