The decision to guarantee Martin's contract for the rest of the season was actually made last week. Toronto had to ask waivers on Martin on Thursday if they wanted to get rid of him before yesterday when non-guaranteed contracts became guaranteed. That leaves the Raptors with the maximum 15 contracts for the rest of the season. So if Babcock finds some trade out there that involves taking back two players to get rid of one, he will have to pay someone not to play.

"We felt that that was a risk worth taking," Babcock said last night. "One of the things I told our money people was that that could happen and they went for it."

The decision to keep Martin took no thought, really.

"He's been terrific," Babcock said. "Obviously we didn't bring him in as some young talent we were looking at for the future. We wanted him to be a tutor for Jose (Calderon, Toronto's rookie guard) and be a good guy in the locker room. He's been that and more."

Coach Sam Mitchell said last week he uses Martin as a conduit to the rookies and underachievers, yelling and screaming at the veteran guard when the kids get tired of listening to him.

i read that 2, it's good to hear, but he should stop taking ill-advised shots wen hes on the floor... lol
