Raptors Defense

This is not a criticism towards Mitchell or Raptors defense, but I been wondering why the Raptors doesn't play defense the way it would suit or benefit the raptors more. They play too many halfcourt defense rarely double team specially since rebounding is their weakness they aren't able to generate much offense from their defense too often they reply too much on 3s.

What I actually would like see them do is play more half court traps, half court press and full court court press. They have the athleticism and length to excel in this type of system. Although it's too late to implement a new defensive system they should really look into to changing their defensive style since it doesn't hide their weakness which is rebounding

Re: Raptors Defense

too hard at the nba level though imo. Teams usually just shred it

like when Rick Pitino went to the Celts and everyone thought his pressure d would kill teams? lol. Some Boston station used to show tons of Celts games back then, and I'd see them press all the time and just get killed for it over and over again

much rather focus on having strong halfcourt d. (our bigmen athleticism can help us on rotations and weakside help too. I think it's much more important, although I'm not a coach lol. But thats what I'd like to see us trying to pefect, consitency in the weakside help and sharper rotating to shooters)

Re: Raptors Defense

I agree that most teams will shred pressure D in the NBA. Although it worked like a charm when the Lakers used a full court press against the Raptors in the 3rd quarter of the 81 point game. It might be worth a try against some teams like Miami where the Raptors half court D doesn't stand a chance.
(it couldn't hurt)

Re: Raptors Defense

The Raptors have been unsucessful at running an effective zone defence this season as well.

What would you think about a Box + 1 Defence where Bosh/Bonner would be the chaser?
