Don Nelson for Prez/GM?
Papers are reporting that Don Nelson is looking to come out of his retirement and taking on full-time duties next year, instead of his current "consultant" role with the Mavs.
He seems like the guy with the experience and track record that we need. Should we go after Nellie? Is MLSE too cheap to take this guy on?

Re: Don Nelson for Prez/GM?
Goose's history with Nelson might play a part. If Nelson is interested in coming to Toronto I assume he would be high on their list.

It won't happen with Embry around and he doesn't deserve to be shown the door he's got just as good a track record as nellie and a better character.

Where do I sign?
Nelson is a first class executive, having some of the international talent that we have accumulated over the last 2 seasons may help us bring him in.

I see your point but Peddie has already blown any chance of that happening, he said at the press conference that he wanted someone with experience and that person woud be filling both GM and president roles. So if offers Nelson ( or any high profile candidate the position) and doesn't offer both they will feel slighted - as if they were not as good as the candidate Peddie had in mind that deserved both positions.
Watched Full Court Press the other night, IMO the best show on Raps TV, and Jack Armstrong made some great points. Mainly that Peddie has already blown this thing by stating experienced candidates only. Joe Dumars is a first time GM, Red Auerback was a first time GM with Boston. Its not expereince so much as credibility and presence. Babcock didn't have any ability to capture a room he just wasn't engaging and charismatic enough to get it done.
Armstrong also mentione that he knew Babcock was a quasi-lame duck the day the hired him. IF the GM is really your guy do you have him sit between two hall of famers (Embry and English) at his hiring press confrence? No. He sits ther by himself, and then he has his own press conference the next week to hire the other two. Armstrong labeled it as being more concerned with "Winning the press conference" than making a good decision.
Someone on Sportsnet said that Armstong would make a good GM . . . too bad he doesn't have any exprience!

Nellie won't win in the playoffs, but he'll get you there. It'd be a good move for the Raps.

Re: Don Nelson for Prez/GM?
No, i dont want this guy...before the raps came into existence i was a warriors (go timmy) and suns fan (go kj), so im somewhat familiar with him...i agree with rebelsun that he'll get us into the playoffs but he wont get us all the way over....that doesnt satisfy me at all...
if he constructs and puts together rosters like how he puts out his lineup as a coach, im really scared to see what he'd come up with...this guy really thinks outside the box when it comes to conventional basketball philosophy...

Re: Don Nelson for Prez/GM?
He hasn't won as a coach. As primarily a GM, I think he'd do great, and it's no guarantee that we'd flop in the playoffs either. Especially for this team, it would be fantastic.

Re: Don Nelson for Prez/GM?
I wonder if Jonathan Givony would be interested for the GM job. The guy's dedication to scouting is second to none. Better scouting than nbadraft.net if you ask me. Having him as a GM would be GREAT because he would know the value of picks, the value of under-the-radar prospects, the history of players, etc.

Re: Don Nelson for Prez/GM?
Nelson would diffinatly bring the club some cred. That alone may be worth having him around.
