All-Star Voting Is A Joke
Look no further than balloting for Eastern Conference Forwards ->
LeBron James (Cle.) 1,827,008
Jermaine O’Neal (Ind.) 1,067,619
Rasheed Wallace (Det.) 654,391
Chris Webber (Phi.) 490,928
Ron Artest (Ind.) 403,634
Grant Hill (Orl.) 392,219
Paul Pierce (Bos.) 349,539
Tayshaun Prince (Det.) 346,721
Chris Bosh (Tor.) 265,322
Bosh (22.6 ppg/9.1 rpg/1.1 bpg/.815 ft %/.506 fg %) owns the following on that list:
Jermaine O'Neal (Bosh has better points, free throw %, field goal %, takes less shots and shoots a better percentage, and JO is a band-aid)
Rasheed Wallace (15.0 ppg/6.6 rpg/2.7 apg/.441 fg %)
Chris Webber (19.5 ppg/9.8 rpg/.86 bpg/.420 fg %)
Ron Artest (19 games played)
Grant Hill (11 games played)
Tayshaun Prince (14.3 ppg/4.4 rpg/2.3 apg/.451 fg %)
Only players who I don't have an arguement for are The Truth and the King.
Other than that, this whole voting system is laughable.

Re: All-Star Voting Is A Joke
I have a question
J'O Neal is out and Wallace doesn't want to play so will start in their place? Coaches decision or next highest voter?

Re: All-Star Voting Is A Joke
Even if a player's injured he's still listed as a starter until the reserves are selected. They don't just go with the next highest vote getter.

I think that either the coach selects the starter, or Stern selects them. Back in 2000, the Eastern center was injured, and Antonio Davis was selected to start the game, if I remember well. I think the broadcasters said that it was Stern's decision.

Re: All-Star Voting Is A Joke
if you think about the notions of all-star games, all-stars, and all-star starters for too long, you sort of reach the point where you don't understand any of it. i don't think it's just about the numbers, although i suppose that's part of it. the whole idea is strange.
it's a popularity contest, that's all it is. people trying to justify anyone for the all-star game is laughable. anything can be contradicted. but why are some people more popular than others? it'll take a while to put your finger on that one.
peace

Re: All-Star Voting Is A Joke
It's funny that Vince Carter tore apart the All-Star voting records while in Toronto but once he is in New Jersey he becomes invisible to the North American basketball fan. How were the T-Dot fans able to push him to the top of the voting pile year after year yet they can only muster a measly 266,000 votes for CB4??? My friends and I voted for Bosh everyday online but yet apparently that was to much trouble for those who actually reside in Ontario.

Before I start, I just want to say that I did vote for CB4 daily and that I hope he will be named to the All-Star team this year.
Not all people vote for a player just because he plays on their favourite team or hometown team. Many people vote for the players they think will make the game fun and exciting to watch with wacky passes and dunks and the like. Yes, Chris Bosh is an amazing player who has a strong game, and yes, he is one of the most talented power forwards in the NBA right now. However, CB4 lacks what VC had in Toronto back then: flair. It's tough to say whos game is better, CB4 or VC's because they play different positions, but VC's game was a lot more exciting to watch in an All-Star game because of his stunning dunks and his style of play (i.e. sorta fooling and laughing around all the time). Bosh's determination, game and style is more suited to regular season/playoff games. In games, unlike Carter, CB4 never jokes around or laughs things off (or slaps other people) during a game when his team is losing or fighting for control. Sure, CB4 has some explosive dunks and blocks and stuff, but his dunks are completely different from VC's because Vince has/had that hanging ability and that penchant and athleticism for dunking. VC had people hooked because his game was uber-uber-uber-exciting to watch. Many people have yet to adapt to Bosh's own style and type of passionate/determined excitement and Bosh is receiving less attention from non-Raptors fans compared to Carter a few years back. Carter was propelled and pushed more into the spotlight because of his crazy dunk comp in 2000 (i think it was).
If it makes you feel any better, people only voted for Carter because they wanted to see him dunk. lol.

Re: All-Star Voting Is A Joke
JO won't participate, and I wonder what it means for Bosh.
Assuming that 'sheed replaces JO, who will be on the bench?
I think the Coaches will choose C-Webb and Pierce from that list of Forwards.
Still, there's place for Bosh. However, the Coaches might want to tribute the Pistons' great season, and perhaps they choose Prince instead of Bosh.

Good point, but I guess Bosh just doesn't show up in the highlights as much as VC did. Once TO starts winning more, and Bosh shows up more on TV highlights with huge blocks and clutch shots, then I'm sure people will start noticing him more.

hopefully the coaches will try and balance out the roster to include some bigs for the east, cause the west will have monster lineups like Duncan-KG-Dirk-Yao and the east needs to atleast try and matchup.
This is where I see Bosh coming in, the east doesn't have a lot of big men to match the west and Prince, while I think he's a great complimentary player, shouldn't be selected over Bosh especially for the size-challanged east(especially now with J.O out)
If for some reason the east decides to go small and they go with Paul Pierce over Bosh, I woudln't be too disappointed because he's having a great year, but if I see Webber or Prince selected I will probably be a litte more p'd

Re: All-Star Voting Is A Joke
I dont understand how Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming are going to be starters when they have missed half of the season and have the worst record in the West. UnFreakinBeleivable
I'd rather see Chris Kaman play in the ASG than Yao Ming, what a complete waste of a human being.
