i wouldn't change it at this point. maybe the jersey but the name is too... old, i guess.
i do remember 94, though, and the process for naming the team. man, even as a kid i remember thinking "jurassic park is going to be popular for another 2 years max... this is not how you make this decision". but all for naught. toronto-saurus rex was another one of the finalists. i think i would've preferred that one. i'm laughing... but it couldn't be more true (even today).
of course, toronto towers was always in the running. man, someone was trying to force that name down our throats over several years: the towers, or the second place finisher in the naming of the skydome, "the towerdome". kind of makes you wonder, who the hell is in charge here?
anyway, i think
the raptors is... to be perfectly honest, an atrocious name. i can't help it. but it doesn't really matter anymore, we've built a foundation with it and we have what we have. renaming it at this point- it could be to the best name in the world- is just not an option. it would only fuel the fire that would rather
not recognize our franchise as a legitimate nba contender. don't want to do that.
after all, the name doesn't mean anything (think of the lakers). i just wish we could go back in time and do it again a little more responsibly but hey, that's life. jurassic park, yup- how could you
not see the association between chris bosh and sam neill/laura dern's foe in the climax scene of that movie? i love blockbusters. love the foresight that appreciates the timeless nature of their appeal. the blue jays should've considered the toronto darthvaders. it's a shame they looked past it.
