What do you expect from the players in 06/07

I know that we have a mix of some young guys and a few vets, so I was just wondering what everyone thinks players will do on the court next year.

Will we see Mo-Pete expand on any aspect of his game or will it be status quo? I would like to see Peterson help out on the boards a little more, other than that I don't see any change in his game.

Bosh I hope will be a better shot blocker and find a "go to" move in the post.

Charlie as a second year player can just keep on improvinig on all aspects of his game.

Jose as we all know needs to get a more consistant jumper...overall his fg% is no that bad.

Joey needs to play with confidance and work on his handle.

Bonner may be another Peterson, what we see is what we get...he did show a bit better handle this year. I would hope that he can work on his post "D" as well

Sow needs to just keep playing and get stronger, he will earn his keep doing dirty work.

The other players I will not mention...Mike James might not be back, as well as Woods, E-Will, Martin and the rest.

Any thought on what our core will work on or needs to work on this off season?

I agree with most of what you said.
I would like to see Bosh develop a few more moves, the rooks/sophs to continue to improve and if Mike James comes back, I'd like to see him be more of a point guard instead of a shooting guard. His assist numbers are actually quite good but I'd like to see him set up more plays for others instead of for himself. Next year, I hope that his assists won't come from passing off at the last second because he can't pull a play off for himself. I hope Bonner does improve his defence but I don't think that he has the quicks to become "another Peterson" like you said.

Re: What do you expect from the players in 06/07

yeah billfindlay10, I think you got most of the stuff.

I'd like to see Joey and Matt improves their ball handling.

I'm begining to expect 15 minutes of rookie ball out of Roko.

I expect our brand new big man to probably disappoint.

I expect Sam to be fired by Christmas.

And I expect Raptors fans will be missing Mike James.

Re: What do you expect from the players in 06/07

Jose - I expect his shot to finally make the journey from Europe. Think the airline lost it last summer.
Mo - Vet leadership, I'd LIKE to see him go to the basket more but don't expect it.
Charlie- After a summer of working on his defence, I expect it to be better. I also expect him to develop into the most versatile offensive player on our team.
Bosh- A bit more muscle, better man defense. With a good big man, I see his rebounding and block shot numbers increasing.

Sow- Improved timing on defense, more in control on offense, slightly
Graham- Man defense being a bit better, slightly better handles, I'd like to see Sam take advantage of his post game (likely won't though)
Ukic- Exciting backup PG, will likely make mistakes, will likely get rattled, shot will be most likely be a problem during the first season. But he will be solid on defense as his quickness and length will cause problems for opponents.

Bonner- elsewhere
Araujo- elsewhere

Mike James- Won't be able to pull the same **** with a more professional coach elsewhere. Numbers will take a big hit because of this.
Sam- I expect that he will continue to blame the players. At the beginning of the season

I'm sure we'll be hearing about Bosh working on some new post moves and a spanking new ripped up frame, Charlie drilling himself on man to man D, and Joey acquainting himself with the And1 crew in prep for schoolin' some gents with his improved handles, and whilst that's all good, I want to see the implementation in the season proper.

That will be the real improvement. Not during the off-season, but in the season.

I don't doubt he can pull it off, but the likelihood of him doing so is, well, little to none. I mean, the guy's a shooter, and shooter's shoot the rock. He has the capacity to add a pass-first mentality to the repertoire when the game calls for it, and whilst it'd be nice to see him play a game more team-centred game, I don't see why he can't continue playing to his strengths.

Perhaps look to have a little less domination of the ball, but other than that, I'm just looking for MJ (return pending of course) to prove to us and the league that he's a legitimate Mr Consistency. No contract-year blow-offs.

I was not saying that he will play like Peterson....just that I don't think we will see any major change in his game. Mo Pete is at his plateau and I thiink Bonner has pretty much reached his as well.

a more confident Grahem that will play about 20 MPG, intense on D, securing rebounds, developing the post game.

Re: What do you expect from the players in 06/07

i don't know if i expect any of the players to change that much next year. if anyone, it'd probably be chris. i wouldn't be shocked to see him enter the mvp race soon (and maybe next year) but again, that wouldn't count as much of a shock in my world. in terms of pumping up his frame, i doubt it. i think most of the players we have today will look the way they do for... well, the rest of their careers. i think people will talk about chris' summer weight training programs every spring (even chris himself) but i don't think it's going to change a thing. he might change the way he plays, his mental approach may change, but his physical size is probably 'stuck' in its current form. so if anything, i think he'll change his game in other ways. i see his body as a fixed asset.

in terms of the rest of our team, i'd hold the same point for them too. a lot of their development will rely on the decisions colangelo makes this summer and the way he shapes the roster. they'll have new roles- or slightly changed roles- and attempt to fill them. i think mop's versatility will allow him to be the most flexible piece of our team puzzle, and he might decide to stress certain parts of his game in accordance with the role we define for him. but whatever happens with him, it really won't shock me.

for charlie, i'm sort of expecting him to be greeted with some disappointment. i don't think it would be deserving, no, but the way he's being perceived by the mass today is (imo) exaggerated. i think a large fraction of the fanbase is expecting him to ride the "rookie star curve" and inevitably become this uncontrollable force, and that's unfair. i don't see him ever reaching that level. so as soon as he begins to plateau in his career (which i think- but don't know- will be relatively soon... like next year) i think the critics will come calling. we'll see.

if anyone's value on the court is going to change, i think it'll be joey's. again, i don't know, he could 'plateau' the way i see charlie doing it, but i think he showed the greatest signs of improvement throughout this season. i think it would be foolish to expect his visible improvements to slow down anytime soon. with his game, i'm starting to notice how he exposes the things he learns- and he does it well. while most players keep on the straight and narrow, joey seems to fail... but not without value. iow, he puts his finger on the 'why', he goes out of his way to keep track of it immediately following his failure, and eventually he learns how to use the newfound knowledge in response to his earlier failures. his action plans change. to me, he's maybe the most promising kid we have (aside from chris) in that sense. if he builds further comfort in that area as he grows older, this kid will become a very smart veteran. i hope he can stay healthy.

as for hoffa, i think he'll strip steve of his mvp award next year. i think most people know that. i think hoffa definitely does. his confidence and the way we treat him have never meshed so beautifully, and i can't help but lick my lips whenever i consider this man's future with the raptors. the hardware's gonna be lined across his mantle for miles. the improvements have been staggering and this man will single-handedly (with the help of chris bosh, of course) carry this team to a string of titles... provided he makes the team.

peace

Re: What do you expect from the players in 06/07

Ballocks, not that I think that Charlie will become an unstoppable force, but why do you think that a 21 year old rookie has plateaued or will plateau next season? It seems kind of harsh to say that he's got no improvement left in him. The guy showed during the draft process and in the summer that he's got a great work ethic.
I'm really curious as to why you feel that the guy's got no improvement left in him. Oh please drop some wisdom on my ig'nant a**.
